Most people do. I'm hoping that the bore is good enough that I can just get a hone and use the Vitara pistons.

I got the intake manifold off and stripped it bare today. Every little bolt, nut and plug has been bagged, tagged, and inventoried. I am not leaving anything to chance this time around.

The IM is really dirty inside, lots of carbon build-up. I sprayed it with some Brake-Kleen and it helped alot, but I'd like to get it mint before using it. Any suggestions to get all up inside of the runners and such?

Well whenever i spend money on tools i feel like it is very well spent, after all they do last a long time.

Btw, props for tackling this job yourself, quite a task ahead of you but im sure you'll learn a lot and save a lot by doing the work yourself.
with that said, start tearing it up!!

The brake-kleen did an amazing job already. I may stick it in the bath tub and scrub the **** outta it. I'm debating whether or not I'm going to go ahead and clean and paint everything. Like paint the block, head, and intake mani high temp aluminum paint.

Do a search for Honda Crank Pulley and it'll come up. They have a couple different styles too.

Nope. I am going OBD1 so I don't need it anyway. If you want one, you can have my SOHC ZC dizzy when I actually swap in the new motor.

I got in the couplers and t-bolt clamps in today along with my ring filer. The clamps are too small. Someone buy them so It's not a complete loss...

Well ****, today ain't that great of a day.

Got the block torn down (except for the internals) and the head off. There is some surface rust in the cylinders. After alot of wiping down with WD-40 and brake-kleen, I got the rotating assembly to move. The walls look ok, and I think it may be more sludge than it is rust. But who knows. That's what happens when you buy a motor that was stored with no spark plugs in it.

Looks like I may have to overbore it and build it the right way instead of cheaping out on the Vitaras.

EDIT: Lol at the triple post.

no need to waste money on that. two headstuds, a ni**er bar, and some force will get it off.

I plan on calling Braunings Motorsports tomorrow to see when I can bring the block by for a hone. If it takes care of it and the bore is straight, and the size if fine, then alright. If it's pitted and not gonna work, then an overbore is in order.
