update-still waiting for fed-ex to deliver my parts. clear coated the cf hood and learned how to use the touchup gun.

thanks. here's some info on the touch-up gun: .8mm tip, manufactured by american pneumatics, model # gf6. it's basically an imitation SATA touch-up gun. msrp is $117.

cleared coated the hood. layed down 3 coats. i allowed 30 minutes flash time between each coat.

today's paint booth. air pressure was set @ 45 psi and the manufacturer recommended 35-40. Once the paint was mixed i tested out the gun settings on the box. as soon as i pulled the trigger i got a run. a quick fluid flow reduction and the gun was ready to go.

the edges on the wheelwell arch and bottom of the L fender need touch-up.

same thing on the R fender plus that spot above the bumper.

sprayed 4 coats and kept the gun in the refrigerator while waiting for the paint to flash.

results of touch-up session #1. no orangepeel btw

harmonator84 thanks for the link.
thanks for the replies.

The car is turning out great. I cannot believe that you were asking me questions. By the looks of your progress pretty soon I will be asking you for help.
Wondering though if you are going to come to the Mid Ohio Meet in Sept.
Would love to see your car there.

painted my raer bumper b-56m (saxony blue metallic) for practice. The bumper will be clear coated and then i'll do the front.

i followed a black mid 90's black 328i bmw sedan for 10 miles on the freeway a few days ago. same night i searched ebay for prices started looking for a bmw forum. i'm serious. Did a couple side jobs at a pizza restaurant. His freezer went down and then his AC broke. Did a really good job for the guy and now he has another job for me next week. this was the third job i've done for him. Everytime something breaks he calls me. today i realized i have my first account. i left with a smile on my face similar to driving my b16 for the first time. Next i'm getting a mechanical contractors license and insurance policy.

thank you for the compliment. I want to attend the meet. asked my wife and she didn't say "no" and then asked "how far is ny from ohio". at this time the car isn't watertight and has minor mechanical issues. Front needs new upper control arms and the alternator was making noise when i started the project. I think it's bad idea attempting a 1500 mile drive knowing my car has problems.

update-the car is still sitting in the garage. Wetsanded the touchup paint on the fenders. Next i need to touch up the bottom of the car under the door and the bottom of the quarter panels. Ordered new bumper covers and front lip for an 89 Si from hap.com cancelled the order when shipping was $150.

I need new brand new from honda new door panels and carpet. seats need to be reupholstered and the windshield must be replaced. that is my short term goal.

I haven't given up and i'm still hard at work.
i'm being patient so things will get done right the 1st time.
thanks for the positive feedback.

this is way too many tools for a coilover install. set screws were rusted so i had to use the grinder to remove it. then the sleeve was stuck to the shock and i had to use the sheetmetal hammer. The coilovers didn't come with instructions so i put the short sleeves and thick springs in the front. Long sleeves and thin springs were installed in the rear.
torque specs for rear: three bolts on rear lca= 40ft.lbs. nut on shock piston=22 ft.lbs., 2 nuts for mounting collar=29 ft.lbs.
torque specs for front: nut on shock piston=22 ft.lbs., 2 shock mounting collar=29 ft.lbs., upper bolt on shock fork=32 ft.lbs., lower bolt on shock fork=47 ft.lbs.

replaced front upper control arms. The upper arm bushings are torqued to 22 ft.lbs. upper arm anchor bolts are torqued to 47 ft.lbs. installed cotter pin in the ball joint threads and torqued to 32 ft.lbs.

here's how it sits after new front ucas and gc coiovers.
