thanks for the bump. haven't done much to the car but here's what's going on.
yesterday i went through the garage and attic and found all the pieces for the exterior. starting at the front, i made a list of everything i need to get from honda to reconstruct the exterior.
The need list-
(12) clips to remount the upper door moulding
l/r lower door moulding + clips
b-35m sticker
ziptie for license plate lighting wire harness
need 1 bolt for the gas fill lid
89 si "interior type sticker"
clip for brake lines behind blower motor (that's why the dash hasn't been reinstalled)
The want list-
bottom trim for hatch window
the 2 outer pieces of plastic for bottom of rear spoiler
(2) circular things for the outside of the rear 1/4 window
something to fill in the hole for the rear wiper
here's the interior as of tonight. Once the car is watertight i'll finish up the interior.

I installed the lower door moulding and when i opened the door the moulding hit the fender and broke the clip. doors and fenders need to be realigned once again. check out that mint dx seat.

decided to press my luck and wetsand with 1200.

right now my focus is finding the money to finish this project. i've started saving copper and aluminum from work and recycling it. copper is $2.60/lb, aluminum is $.50/lb and aluminum coils with copper tubing is $90/lb. I never thought i'd have to resort to this but it's money in my pocket. did an ac sidejob on saturday. I wouldn't call it work , but i spent 1.5 hrs fixing a unit and made $110. while primering one day someone drove by in a eh sedan, backed up, got out of the car and asked how much to paint his car. "this is the first car i've painted, let's see how it turns out and go from there" was my response. At first i thought he was a theif but now i know where he lives and i'm going to see what's up. I have a fro now because i haven't cut my hair in 5 months.
5 months w/o haircut=1 gal of paint.

Been following the build since the beginning, very nice work. (I am doing the same thing with my crx and have used some of your techniques)
Couple of questions tho:
1. You used 220 grit dry, then wetsanded with 400 after harmonator gave you the tip. Was 220 too rough?
2. Why did you have to buy a new fender from the junkyard?
3. Were the flaws in your paint from body prep, or when you were spraying the car?
4. I see you moved into a house, congratulations.
Looking forward to seeing the rest. I'll post my build later on as well. You move very fast!

Thank you. I'm curious... what have you learned from me?
1. back to page 4: at that time i was knocking down the hi-build primer which had a texture similar to drywall. tried 220 wet and it required to much effort so i tried 220 dry and had better results. while sanding i burned through a few edges and saw metal so i pmed harmonator84 looking for tips on how to avoid that. he recommended that i make a custom sanding block. I took his advice and finished it off with 400 wet.
2. back to page 1: the R fender had a small ding on the edge. i wanted to buy a new fender but i couldn't find one at a reasonable price so i bondoed the existing fender. i've been perusing junkyards for four years now and i finally found a fender worth buying. I'm going to paint this fender and teach myself how to use the touch up gun.
3. the flaws in the first paint job were my fault. had one spay error on the R door because there was a problem with the hose. I looked down for a second and the damage was done. one more second and there probably would have been a run. I burned through more edges as well. for the respray i doubled the manufacturers recommendation on the air cap and paid more attention to the hose.
4. thanks.

A brief summary of what ive done:

My intention is not to ***** your build. I used the same etching primer before I primered. I made the same mistake with the 220 by burning through the edges. I have primered the car about a total of 4 times, wetsanding with 400 as well. I always seem to burn through an edge when I wetsand, but this last time I think I have it right. Any tips?
Thanks again for the writeup, you are helping at least one person

update-made some progress over the last couple days. went to honda and paint store as planned on thursday. The quote from honda was over $200 for the parts i needed. left the dealer empty handed but obtained part numbers.
(4) 46392-SB2-014 CLIP B, BRAKE PIPE (clip supports 2 brake lines along R side of interior)
(2) 73141-SB3-000 PIN (black pin on exterior of rear quarter window)
(1) 46392-SH3-A01 CLIP D, BRAKE PIPE (the clips that you run your 2 ga battery cable through)
(1) 74992-SH3-000 GARNISH, R. SIDE (plastic under spoiler)
(1) 74993-SH3-000 GARNISH, L. SIDE (plastic under spoiler)
$73.00 from Regal honda in lakeland, fl. $51 shipped from HAP.com.
my new gravity fed touch-up gun on the left. The gun has been sitting on the shelf at the paint store for 4 years and he offered it to me for $50 two weeks ago just to get rid of it. i went back thursday and to buy it and the counter guy forgot how much it was. "how much did i tell you?" I said "$35" and he went for it.
the gun on the right is a suction fed touch-up gun. i never cared for the suction fed touch up gun. I don't like how the pneumatic fitting connects and the trigger annoys me. It requires twice the air pressure of the hvlp gun. if you're spaying down the pickup tube won't pick up unless the cup is full.

This morning i ordered the parts listed above from hondaautomotiveparts.com and saved $20. This afternoon I went to NAPA looking for wire ties for my license plate wiring harness. Found some 1200 grit sandpaper and bought it. Went home and scuffed up the paint with 1500 wet to remove the polishing compound.
some info about buying sandpaper-advanced auto parts carries 80 dry, 220 wet/dry, 320 dry, 400 wet/dry, 800 wet/dry, 1000 wet/dry, 1500 wet/dry and 2000 wet/dry. if you need something rougher than 80 grit go to home depot. The have 36, 40 and 60 grit dry and 600 wet. napa stocks 600 and 1200 wet. walmart carries the same paper as advanced but if you're looking for 800 you'll get twice as much from walmart for the same price.
I was happy with my previous wetsanding job but i was conservative on the edges and hard to reach spots (below the door moulding and middle of roof. the dark spots are the low spots. all of them were knocked down with 1200 wet. Once polished it will have a mirror finish instead of just looking good.

in the past i've tried every 3m marine product (p/n 9005, 9006, 9009) to save this hood. 3m is effective however it's just a temporary fix. cf hood was wetsanded with 400. once i clean off the sanding residue it will be ready for clearcoat.

thank you. that header came in handy once the e-brake handle was disconnect and the car started rolling forward .
LOL thanks
thanks for the compliment
trini-laser: your car is going to be awesome. Looking forward to your thread. sent you a PM.

Yea I normally just use the suction fed guns for primers. Thats all the really are good for. Looks like you got a good deal on the gravity gun though. Damn that hood looks good, I wish i had a carbon hood. They just cost to much though.
Everything is looking good though, keep it up.
