headlamp problem , 2005 TL
searched couldn't find exactly what issue im having. so hopeing someone can chine in.
2005 acura tl nav edition
125,000 miles
Problem:
headlamps sometime work flawlessly
then next time you crank it up, 1 hid bulb will not be on
then cut off and cut back on, the opposite side will be off
then back on, both burn sometimes
then reg non hid highbeams wont be on at all
then reg non highbeams with be on with 1 hid bulb
etc etc....
car has all factory parts on it, car is mint condition otherwise
we did replace headlamp switch with oem thinking maybe that was the problem
have not taken it to acura yet, as they want $315 just to look at it.
any help would be appreciated guys, I know its a lot to ask out of a newbie!

Re: headlamp problem , 2005 TL
I have a 2003 CL & should be similar to 2005 TL.
3 things can go wrong here:
a. The bulb
b. The Inverter
c. The electrical wire getting loose in the Plastic Automotive Electrical Connector that plugs into the inverter. This problem had plague me for sometime as I have intermittent lights on & off. The dealer finally fixed it but crimping the electrical contact tightly with the wire. I couldn't have guessed it.
Another possible scenario: I have a situation before where the high beam automatically turned on to low light output. I discovered that my ballast went haywire & blew the fuse. Once the fuse was blown, somehow the high beam light turned on to low output.
I found the easiest way to replace the ballast is to get an aftermarket one like Morimoto Three Five Ballast for $55. Sold by www.theretrofitsource.com; Forget about getting the original ballast made by Stanley since they are way over priced at $300+ & it is a royal PITA to remove the bumper to get to it.
My solution is simply to cut a slot wide enough (cut from the threaded area to the back cap) in the HID bulb rear cap to allow the HID wire to slip through. Route the wire through this slot you just made, & put some GE silicone to seal it. Before applying silicone, check to make sure you have enough wire to assemble the HID connector to the bulb & there is enough wire slack for you to twist the cap. And enough wire to where you want to mount the ballast unit. After all the assembly is done, replace the blown 20A fuse.
Hope this helps
