test pipes and resonators
I dont know much about test pipes but i know they take the place of your cat, I was just wondering if the test pipe took away the annoying noise of not having a cat. People sell them and they say test pipe and resonator so im kinda confused if they are the same thing. I know you can run both and I also wanted to ask where you guys bought your test pipes and how does your car sound. thanks Im running 2.25" piping with a magnaflow muffler and I wanted to know how it would sound if I added a resonator, took off the cat and added a test pipe. I know it would be a lot quiter but would it sound nice, what do you think. And would I get better performance or is it not even worth the money.

I say keep at least one resonator in the system, otherwise you'll get that raspy honda exhaust sound. I would keep my cat as well because of smog and enforcement (heavy in Ontario.) I assume it's just as bad in California.

Re: test pipes and resonators (CycloneBlue_1.6EL)
resonator is simply for the noise, to quiet it down, i took mine off cause i ended up getting bigger pipping in my DA and i wanna get a test pipe put in but i need to find a welding shop that will do it. Just put the test pipe in but have a shop weld on a cat. cover so that it still looks like you have a cat for the po po's. as long as they see the heat shield they wont really question just tell them you think somethings wrong with the car, its not been running right and you dont have money to fix it right now. i've been pulled over many times in my homies car and he has no resonator or cat just test pipe and muffler and we give the same reason everytime. either way just try it out and see, no harm in that really just make sure you get a heat shield for the test pipe the only way to somewhat avoid a ticket

I just got my test pipe on 2 weeks ago. Bought it off ebay but the pipe was to short. Had to cut it and put muffler clamps on it. Anyways you can do the job yourself if you have 2 hours. Its just stright bolt on if you get one from ebay. Noise wise... i have a skunk2 mega power and i get compliments all the time of how the car sounds. I'll try to get an exhust clip this week end to show you guys. Sounds crazy

A test pipe just fills in the missing link in your exhaust sys. once you remove the cat. The test pipe will be a straight through pipe and you will probably need an o2 simulator to keep from throwing a cel. I think they are just resistors. Hope that helps.

no, a test pipe is not used for any sound purposes. in fact, they sound like ****. all a test pipe is, is what f2rider said. a gutted cat is pretty much a test pipe.
get a high flow cat.

carsound (which are made by magnaflow) are a popular choice. check out kteller.com, he sells them and he prewelds the flanges on there for you.
