Default WS2 with test pipe

If I put the test pipe on a WS2 running on a b18c1 (No header, no short ram) will I keep my low tone I have now, or should I expect a lot more raspyness from it then? I am considering to throw it on there, and drive it for a week, If I hate it, I will just switch back to the stock cat, and possibly try a high flow cat. What do you all think??

ws2 is one of those exhausts that sound good only with a cat imo, with a test pipe i think it sounds awful

if you go catless and want it to sound decent it better have a turbo in the exhaust

What about removing the Resonator? what will that do to the sound?

I'm considering going with a custom 60mm(the ws2 is 60mm) mandrel bent pipe from cat to axleback....But doing that i'll lose the resonator

Seriously search youtube, stop guessing what it'll sound like and just look there.

Youtube is going to give a pretty poor respresentation of sound....Not just because of the fact that alot of video's are shot with low quality microphones...like from cellphone camera's and cheap digital camera's being used as camcorders...but also the distance from the pipe and mod's performed on the motor will dramaticly change how the exhaust sounds once recorded

If you have one 'youtube' video of a stock car with a full ws2 exhaust and the guy standing 6' from his car with a droid phone and another video of a guy 3ft away with a header and no cat on an otherwise stock ws2 setup using an iphone to record it....You can't compare those two videos and say you honestly know what your exhaust will sound like

Plus i don't have speakers on my computer

But someone who knows how these cars sound and how the parts work can tell how the exhaust 'dynamics' will change by removing and/or adding parts to it(i'm not sure what the resinators 'job' is in the exhaust)...i don't know those things...thats why i asked here

Add a testpipe and you gain 0.25-0.5 hp, dramatically increase your emissions, make your car illegal, make your exhaust smelly and raspy. If you're desperately worried about the fractional hp loss from a cat, man up and get a high flow cat from SMSP or Magnaflow.

Testpipe = fail. The only cars that need testpipes are track cars.

Yeah, it's better to read what it sounds than watch few youtube vids

I think it would be MUCH more educational to learn that the exhaust gas's both slow down and expand in a resonator...This results in a slight deeper tone but also because of the pulse width expansion and lose of momentum you lose some power...

But if you'd rather listen to a bunch of ricers reving up their catbacks...hey i'm sure you'll enjoy yourself on ebay....Me, i prefer actual information

Sometimes, I would rather read musical notes than listen to it. The microphone can be compromised.

I don't know if you were being Sarcastic or not(HT needs a smiley)...But i agree competely....unless your listening to a live performance NOTHING can duplicate the way it SHOULD sound correctly...look at how cassette tapes and even CD have wreaked music!

IDK about his pr0n comment, but I'd believe the music/mic thing.

Youtube does kinda blow for exhaust vids.
It'll give you a BASIC understanding or idea, but frankly:
-people are vague in descriptions of mods
-some idiots dont know catback versus axelback (any axelback = GTFO)
-cameras/mics are garbage
-no real "demonstration" of exhaust sound. ITs either startup, or annoying neutral revs. The drive-by ones sound like dick, and the dudes drive like asses.

I bought my WS2 50% based on youtube sounds/vids. Honestly, I love the look and how it sounds, but also wouldnt mind a bit of a louder exhaust.
Unless its just my car, there isnt much of a difference.

What are the reasons for buying an exhaust system anyways? Sound / Performance / Looks.

I'm running a Kidd Racing two piece header with a 2.5 inch collector, test pipe & Apexi WS2 and the car is extremely quite and sounds amazing at WOT. B18C-R

A lot of it has to do with the resonators and it being a baffled muffler..

Just my .02!

I actually tried all these methods.. (no mods on engine)

1: straight pipes from header to a ws2 muffler = rice sound.. bunch of ak47's going off. power= most gains. by 2 whp,

2: high flow cat, ws2 cat back = best sound
power= least compared to every other set up

3: test pipe, ws2 cat back= raspy sound. not as bad as straight piping

4: high flow cat, no resonator, ws2 muffler,= raspy sound..

***my favorite set-UP was when i added an extra resonator and removed my cat..NOW THAT was a great deep tone all way the up to redline

I always hated that raspy rice sound and the real real loud sound..

Don't do it! I recently just did this and can't wait to swap back my oem cat. I bought some eBay high flow cat off some guy for 20 bucks and thought why not give it a shot. The thing was pretty much a test pipe if you ask me. Anyway, it killed the beautiful sound my Greddy sp2 used to make. It sounds nice full throttle in the highway but for dd at low rpms its sooo annoying! By the way I have Greddy SS headers along with my catback.

In my state 95 and older are allowed to be catless...

Yeah but thats also my thing like some of you mentioned, youtube is crap quality... That does no justice at all for the sound imo. Look here, Ill spend 50 on a Megan test pipe, slap it on, If I dont like it, Ill swap back to the stock cat lol. Thanks for the opinions though! Keep posting if you have more to say, I love hearing it haha.
