How are you running a test pipe but a cat?? I thought a test pipe deleted the cat. UNless you mean the one on the manifold.

I would think it sound raspy.

no.. i have a stock integra cat in now, but am wondering what a test pipe would sound like in its place. would it really sound that bad with a oem muffler?

probably, but try it, if you like it, who cares what everyone else thinks. It should sound pretty quiet at low to mid throttle tho.

there's no point in removing your cat, 1-2hp MAYBE at most. Dont pollute this planet more than need be.

Keep the cat. remove resonator, that should make it slightly louder and better flowing.

i ran test pipe on stock civic piping and stock rear section... sounds like sh** real raspy around 4k and then gets deep

personall exsperience, i have a straight / test pipe, I ran with a greddy evo 2. didn't want the loud exhaust anymore, put on a stock si exhaust with the test pipe still on, no rasp at all, sounds deep, nothing special, just more air going straight out, it won't be raspy unless your gutting a cat and fail to remove any lose parts, then it will be raspy. otherwise go for it.

this is from personal experience, i actually have a test pipe in place of the catalytic converter on my 96 civic w/ a b16 swap. 2.25 piping and i kept the stock muffler and resonator, sounds deep when givin'r not raspy at all. hope this helps!

DC header, no cat, and a stock DX muffler on a b20. It sounds like ****. I thought it would be quiet because of the stock muffler, nope, it just buzzes along. I'm not kidding. It sounds like ****.

Well if your state doesn't require you to pass emissions why not say expletive it and go ahead and get the 3+ whp out of it..

One person running a test pipe isn't going to effect the ozone layer any worse then it ******* is now..

i have a resonated test pipe, 2.36" b pipe and stock integra axle back. right at 4k rpm theres some nasty rasp. but cruising its fine and above 4500 its fine. sounds like *** on the gas at 4k though.

I have an AN-R header with no cat and 2.5in piping to a stock type muffler and it is SOOO quiet. Not raspy at all.

i didn't respond to this because i feared this type response. do you really think cat/converters are saving the planet. i know this is a step, but seriously, imo there is so many things wrong in this ******* world.....cars without cats aren't one of them.

Actually, Catalytic converters make an even more potent greenhouse gas which is WORSE for our ozone then smog. Nitrious Oxide.

Catalytic converters have proven to be reliable devices and have been successful in reducing noxious tailpipe emissions. However, they have two adverse environmental impacts in use (ignoring the pollution caused in their manufacture, which would not exist were they not mandated):

Catalytic converters are estimated to account for 50% of total nitrous oxide (dinitrogen oxide, laughing gas) emissions to atmosphere. I have an obd1 j-spec b16a, dcsports header, test pipe, 2 and a half inch exhaust, no resonator, and a short straight through muffler. people can hear me miles away. it is loud and ricey. i am always afraid of being pulled over. i do not recommend this setup. BUT......... It is fun to blow past the car your racing with the engine screaming.

Just get High Flow Cat. U will get better air flow but no noise. In CA u can get fine up to $2500 for removing cat...
