Default Woohoo!...block's back.

Got home from work to find that my block had finally returned from Golden Eagle...attached some pics below.

Sleeves are beefy as hell...gonna take it to a local shop tomorrow to see about honing. I was a little disappointed as they f*cked up and did a step-deck and not o-rings. I called them to complain about it and they offered to reimburse me for the cost to o-ring locally...I was impressed. But it raises a question...will the step-deck (sleeves are raised .001" above the deck) be sufficient for my use, a street-driver running approx 1.4-1.5bar?? Anyone have experience running that setup?

make sure you price o ringing locally....I found it to be 150, and they offered to reimburse 30, so I just sent it back on their tab. Vince kicks butt

more streetable than Darton's, IMHO. Still keeps the open jackets, yet incredibly strong.

here's mine, though it's not done yet

heh...yup already oiled up. I was surprised that when I opened it up that it was bone dry.

Just ordered the rest of my bearings (my dumb *** didn't write down the crank journal codes before I shipped it). Taking the block in Monday and my machine shop is honing it, high-speed balancing the crank and doublechecking the rods/pistons (JE 9:1's and Pauter X-beams). Hopefully by next weekend I'll have everything in hand to start assembly.

I take it the consensus is to get it oringed and screw the step deck??!?

Man, I really like those sleeves and the upper brace. I wish I could've sent to them, but the shipping from Canada just wasn't worth it. My own shop is putting in sleeves they made, which are t-top similar to the Darton sleeves. I should have pictures tonight.

O ringing is the process where a small groove is cut, outlining the top of the cylinder sleeves where the headgasket lays. In this small groove, a small strip of copper is pressed in, and protrudes slightly up. This allows the head gasket to seal even tighter. HTH

I have a different concept of O - ringing, v - shaped grooves are cut around the head as mentioned above and then SS aircraft wire is pressed into the groove not copper, this combined with a copper head gasket is an unblowable seal. generally 0.043 ss 314 wire.
cheers,

copper just takes so much effor to seal correctly. Compared to just factory gasket. I havent seen to many factory gaksest just plain melt.
