Default Preventing rust

Ok, so I polished my stock shifter a couple months back, and little did I know, it is starting to rust. It's very light at this point, but it's there.

I wanted to do a more thorough polishing job anyway, so I'm going to go over it, and it should eliminate whatever rust is there, but what application can I add to it to prevent it from rusting again? Thank you.

Oh. Thanks. Simple enough.

Since the shifter is in my car, are there any suggestions on spraying clear coat on it without actually spraying it specifically on the shifter? Like could I spray it on a sponge, then on the shifter? Thanks again.

Yeah, pretty much.

I have the ITR shift **** on my car, and prefer the "shiny" look over the black shifter look. I learned the hard way that it doesn't shine up too well (although better than black) and also that it rusts.

But really, thanks for the help.

And I'm also trying to avoid taking it out. I would rather just buy an already polished one if I was to go through all that hassle.

The hassle of removing it? you mean like having to unscrew it? haha...

Edit: nevermind...I just realized that you're talking about the shift lever not the ****...
