I just saw this thread, but anywho. Well I've never had the oppourtunity to try to weld before until the other day. My first experience was layin some beads and then welding two lawnmower blades together. I was using a good, but older arc welder. It took some time to get the hang of the arc so it didn't stick, and I kept going too quickly and prolly wasn't letting it penetrate enough, but I was just foolin around. Are wire welders easier to use? I guess arc is for more HD stuff.

Outcome: I have a new respect for those who weld. It's a art that takes lots of practice.

It's not easy to read through fifty something + pages of thread.

I am wondering the same as well. Also Cyphear and I purchased a cheap 110 70 amp arc welder over the weekend. And for some reason the rod gets stuck like a child w/crazyglue. I used to be very profecient with arc and oxy/acet. However now i cant weld for ****. Is it because I suck now or are shitty welders always hard like that? Thanks....And happy as that I can finally post in this thread.

to a fab forum.

Edit:Figured out why im having problems with arc i think. Also another dumb question, if i buy a plasma cutter...(no real reason just very good price) i read that it uses gas to cut. It says built in air supply, so would I need a tank?

exactly why we need a forum. BTW the mods are talking about it in their forum for the last week. i posted something and it was relocated to the mod corner for their discussion. hopefully with good results

plasma cutters use an arc to heat the metal and compressed air to blow it out of the cut. I would imagine that if it says built in air supply that it has some kind of compressor and tank built in.

These guys might have some:

http://www.turboengineering.co....html

I've used their stuff in the past. It was reasonably priced and REALLY nice quality. It's all CNC'd and arrives squeaky clean. No slag or crud on the surfaces.

Check out BMC Racing on HMT. He has every flange you could ever want and they're CNC'd.

Here are a couple crappy pictures I took of my new bandsaw. I'm making a jig for collectors this weekend Its 1/3HP Multi speed, Bi-metal blade. Too heavy for me to carry by myself lol.
