Nice weld Tinker! I bow to you

What do I need to buy to convert my Lincoln Weld Pak 100 to use gas? I think I found the limits of Flux Cored welding, lol

What type of welder are you looking for (Mig, Tig, Stick), what are you looking to spend, and what area of Illinois are you from?

Notice how your tungsten isn't pointing in the direction of travel? It's pointing at an angle towards one side. Thats why your ripples are offest to the side, instead of being symmetrical.

What's worng with that picture is he is going in the wrong way,he should be welding from right to left his tungten should be pointed at the root of the joint.

He IS welding from right to left. The point I'm making is that the tungsten is angled more towards one piece of metal than the other.

Your right he is going right to left BUT from the wrong side, he has to be facing the root
he is just rolling the top plate over onto the bottom plate and will not have any penetration in the root ,he has a good hand though

Me, thinking you're nuts, I go back and look at the pic again...

And just then noticed that it's a lap joint instead of a butt joint. You're correct. If it were me, I'd be welding in the same direction, but pointing the tungsten in from the other side.

for the experts commenting on this pic

please read THIS thread in its entirety to see why the technique was used. Its not my weld and was posted to illustrate the use of a porous bronze block for backpurging.

As MXNUT stated, this angle will likely not get the same penetration that you would if welded from the opposite angle.

You can weld something standing on your head if you want to, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to do it standing on your feet.

Dam flux core is ugly, anyways just practicing a little how do these look ? Does it look like I'm getting enough penetration ?

Looks to me that you're way too hot or holding the nozzle too far away from the metal. Flux core is best run a little colder than solid wire.

And don't worry about penetration on it so much. For exhaust pipe, most joints are slipjoints (aka socket welds or lap joints) where penetration isn't very important since the strength is obtained by external reinforcement. Just get a smooth bead that ties into the base metal at a gradual angle and you'll have it right.

I thought the only way it would be to hot is if I was blowing threw the metal, I guess this is not true then ? Also what determines that its to hot, I just want to be able to look at a weld and know from the looks of it what needs to change. Also isn't flux core solid wire ? Got a little confused with that statement.

Here are some other ones I just did

Weld is right next to my thumb
