Completely Pointless, or is it...
You still dont seem to get it do you? Of course the intake and exhaust manifolds will have to be custom. That's easy. You are going to have to rework ONE of the heads unless you dont mind having a timing belt/chain on both ends of the engine or you are fine with having an exhaust manifold dumping into the middle of your V. Either way you didnt seem to even notice this when i first brought it up so I doubt you have thought this through as much as you have said. Of course this can be done. No one is saying it cantbe done. it's just not practical, profitable, reasonable, sane, reliable, etc... It's cool to have wild ideas and dreams but if you want to be an engineer you are going to have to realize that things are engineered and built for a purpose.
btw would you please stop telling all us engineering students we are wasting our money. It just makes you look like an ***.

As MajorPayne said it would be easier to mod the timing chain as opposed to a custom belt. No **** it would require custom manifolds, 99% of the car will be custom or some custom variation of a Honda part. None of the negativity here will deminish my drive to achieve greatness. This may not be the path but I will be there. The engineering "students" are wasting their time and money IMO, I will go to school and have several degrees, maybe if I want to. Instead of investing my money and efforts in to a piece of paper right now I'd much rather invest in something a little more usefull.

first off, your talking about MAKING an engine, making a BLOCK, or matching a honda head to an existing V8 block. So i don't think a belt would be any more difficult than a timing chain considering your big budget. If you gonna be a dick, be a dick all the way and stick with the B-series.
Second off, your challenging someone spending money on a college education.... that's not cool at all, and that is straight up a jerkoff comment that will lose you alot of respect around here quickly. What do you think they do in engineering schools man? You think they just sit around in front of computers and do absolutely nothing? They learn in every subject what is neccessary to actually build things that have a purpose, are safe, can be sold successfully, and work.
You really need to grow up and look at the reality of what you are talking about doing. your attitude is this--> "I CAN'T BE STOPPED, I WILL SUCEED NO MATTER WHAT OBSTACLES LIFE PLACES IN FRONT OF ME." You need to evaluate the benefits and the costs in life man, and I can tell you this much, having something that no one else has is not as great as it may seem, once you are living in a shack from completing your pet project that has no purpose. You only hear the stories of the 1 in 100 million people who succeed with a lame brain idea. You never hear about the millions who have failed and ended up with nothing in life. And those engineers, they don't accomplish **** with their stupid little peice of paper. I mean, all they do is make EVERYTHING the world needs. Think before you speak. The thing that is more useful to you than a college education is a ******* HONDA V8 WITH VTEC HEADS????? good value system man.

I'm not saying any of you are but some people choose to go in to engineering because of family pressure, because it was the only major they could think of, whatever. I wish I could spend the money on a nice MSOE or MIT education, but I can't so I figure I will build my **** and then have enough income to get whatever formal education I want. And your right "I CAN'T BE STOPPED, I WILL SUCEED NO MATTER WHAT OBSTACLES LIFE PLACES IN FRONT OF ME." That is what life is about to me brother. Not settling for second best, not settling for a cubicle/year advancement in corporate America. That is not my cup of tea friend. And I don't value this VTEC V8 more than education in any sense. I thought that fact was somewhat obvious in me saying how much I love to learn and think. Life is about growth, so if I get said degree and get my "American Dream" of working hard till I'm like 65 and retiring on my nice phatty pension that doesn't exist due to executive scandals, and my huge 401K that I have had to tap for the last 15 years because my pay is not increasing as fast as inflation but hey I always have good old, tapped out 20 years ago, social security to fall back on. Yeah that's my plan for my life, any takers? J/K. No. Stop. The comment about investing in something more usefull didn't mean this project, this project is a huge black hole for money. I'm talking about establishing a company based on my many projects that will come way before this one, so I can hopefully some day create custom beasts such as the one mentioned in this topic of discussion. Again I admire you for biting the bullet and going to college. That step is huge in itself.

I think that was pretty well said. That guy must think that just because hes going to school for engineering that everything is going to be ok for him. He's probably wrong. Also, the schools dont teach you all that, that souds like a mix of things like buisness as well. Just leave him alone to build his dream if he wants to. He asked for your opinion, not your view on life.
You're fighting a losing battle with this conversation, snoochtodanooch, you might as well give it up. Whatever point you're trying to prove is not going to happen.

biting the bullet? it was a choice i made with my heart and to make me happy. stop with the smart remarks about school period. you said <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by HondaFanatic708 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Instead of investing my money and efforts in to a piece of paper right now I'd much rather invest in something a little more usefull. </TD></TR></TABLE> and i am not gonna take you saying that me going to school is bitting the bullet. enough with that. At this point with your actions i offer you the best of luck because now i know your a waste of time.
Way to go back on what you said in previous posts. Who said engineers go to school out of peer pressure or because they want a cushy desk job? None of that applies to me. If you think it takes money to go to engineering school you are mistaken. It takes hard work and determination. Lack of money is no excuse. I'm a freakin single parent for Christ's sake. I make about 15k during the summer and 35k if I work full time the entire year. I somehow manage to go to school. Don't use money as an excuse because it just makes you look silly, arrogant, cocky and naive.
You still haven't addressed the issue I brought up about the exhaust dumping into the middle of the V. Your avoidance of any discussion about the technical aspect of this project leads me to believe that you are just an attention ***** looking for respect that you haven't earned.

He could always try what the Brits did with the Hayabusa derived V8. Keep the heads the way they are and have timing chains on both the front and back of the motor.

Wow a lot of harsh words from someone who is dumb enough to pop a kid out so young and not smart enough to keep the bitch around, J/P. But I'll get to your exhaust dumping in to the middle of the V. The exhaust manifolds will come out the side of the block, the intake ports will mesh in the middle of the engine. There will be a second timing chain in a sort of "spacer" area between the back of the block and where the trans bolts up.
The exhaust manifolds will be 4-1 design, straight-through with no cat obviously, but an indepentand muffler for each set of cylinders. The outlet will be machined aircraft alluminum with a gradual plenum opening to help adjust the loudness of the exhaust note.
The intake manifold will be dual-stage. Are you knowledgable about this tidbit of Honda engineering genius? Probably not so I will describe it. It's purpose is to work in convunction with VTEC to produce more low-rpm torque and more high-rpm power. Each cylinder is fed by air via an individual intake runner connected to one of two plenum chambers. One plenum will control flow to the front 4 cylinders while the other will control flow to the rear bank of 4 cylinders. Just like a trumpet, the runners length and shape will be designed and optimized to produce a resonant sonic wave effect at low rpm. The positive pressure fluctuations of this wave will be timed to arrive when the intake valves are open, in turn pressurizing the cylinder with more air than they would normally draw. As the engine speed increses this wave would soon become out of phase with the intake valve opening frequency. Now the ram effect created by the inertia of the large volume of air the engine is using is more effective at cylinder filling than the pressure waves. So around 4,500 to 5,000 rpm, butterfly valves that connect the front and rear plenums open, effectively canceling the resonant sonic wave activity. There will be a bit of fine tuning with size and shape of the intake plenums but once the optimum is discovered, watchout. Basically it flows the intake air differently wether your in VTEC or not..

All i can say is why are you still on this forum arguing. I might have some faith in you if you can actually show us that you have accomplished something but all i see so far is a dream and made up plan in your head. Why did you come on here asking for advise if you expected to get negative comments? You think the people on here are going to build the engine for you? Do you need someone to hold your hand everyday in life? Get off your *** and do things yourself like calling companies, getting ideas from them, the experts, and then come back here. But as well all know you are just going to keep checking this forum and posting about how it can be done when in reality you have no clue what you are doing. Quit being an E-racer and go start throwing your money away at a useless peice of metal.
EDIT: how old are you anyway?

I expected negative comments because there are a lot of negative people in the world. It will not equate to a negative thought pattern on my part in any sense. No I will build it myself. No I don't see where this came from (useless flaming without backing). BTW I have been in contact with individuals and companies that have explored this idea on other platforms.. Of course I will check this topic from time to time, just in case someone has an idea of value.
EDIT: Time is a man-made thing, it is of this world and this world alone, it is not universal so I don't pay much attention to it. So therefore age is of no matter here. I've been ocassionally checking this post but most of my day has been spent drawing **** up, formulating ideas. A bunch of what I did today doesn't even directly relate to this project but other projects of greater importance at this point..

I first thought you were trying to copy that Blue Man Group then I was like who are the yellow *******. So are you blue or yellow bro? LOL!

We need to talk technical again folks... Enough mud slinging..

First off why a B-series head? Why not a K?
Second you're crazy, lol.
I understand you have an imagination and goals. But some are just meant to be left alone. If you are that into building a B8 or whatever stop the idea of using B-series heads. Like mentioned before you WILL have to custom make/design one just for the timing to work or have the exhaust and intake running as a v side by side if you do figure a way to get the timing to work.
You seem to have a lot ambition, so use it wisely. If anything design a new motor or just a completely new better flowing head for the b/k series and if somehow you do a better job then honda, find an investor, sell your idea, and me a rich.
And you have YET to answer why you want vtech in a performance motor? Why not just have a cam w/ single profile for just performance?

There is no single cam profile that can compare to the usage of primary and secondary lobes and VTC (Vairiable timing controller) used in the i-Vtec system. Look back at the post where I mentioned the dual-stage IM, the Vtec engagement will also occur in two stages. The reason why I am going to use Vtec as opposed to a super aggressive cam profile is because I want to still be able to drive the car slow (streetability). Plus being of Honda origion it will be a rev-happy motor. So I want the steriod style power output in those higher RPMs but also without burning too much fuel. If someone can explain to me how VTC can be mimiced by a single profile cam I will strongly consider it before I still use i-Vtec.

Here is a cutaway drawing of the SH-AWD rear end. As you can see by this and the second image (a cutaway of the RL 5sp Auto trans) the front and rear is linked by the common drive shaft.

Now here is where the SH-AWD concept for my project runs into a small problem. I have to figure out how to use the SH-AWD rear end (that is the easy part compared to the rest of the mod) but use a MT as well. I'm thinking I might have to get a cutaway drawing of the CRV MT to see if there are any design similarities...
Look closely to where the rear axels attach to this rear end. Doesn't that look similiar to how the end of your internittent shaft looks? Depending on spline size and teeth count I'm sure this can be modified to attach to the rear of a Civic. I guess one of the next steps would be to track down a Factory Service Manual for the new RL, and the S2000 (for Honda RWD info) and CRV (to see how an auto CRV trans compares to the MT as far a differntial bolt-on). Anyone have any ideas on this subject matter?

you would design your engine first then your trans. Unless you want to design your engine to bolt up to the POS crv trans. Why don't you work on the impossibilities of the design first, like the engine block.
