Default White smoke from valve cover

I just recently bought a hatchback that's been sitting for almost 2 years without driving it and the timing belt was broken, so yesterday, I finally replaced the timing belt, put everything back together and started the car (engine). From the ticking sound, it sounds like I have belt valves or something. After a minute or so, white smoke started coming out from the valve cover. What could be wrong?

I have used the search and found out that it could be
1. burning coolent
2. the ring, but i don't know what about it

so anything advice?

Will I be able to drive the car with these problem anyway? I don't mind about the ticking noise, I just want to drive it to the body shop and teach my gf how to drive a stick.

hmmm.. doesn't sound good... Is it white steam that disipates as it floats away or is it smoke??? If it's coolant and it's coming out of your valvecover then something may be wrong with the head.. ie cracked??? Also could just be a bad headgasket... It also could be the rings although blow by coming out of the valvecover isn't normally stark white... I would recommend a leakdown test... That will most likely lead you to what is wrong... If you've had valve piston contact cuz of snapped t-belt then a lot more than one thing could have gone wrong... Good Luck

ticking sound might be bent valves from broken timing belt. etc. is it thick white smoke??

If it's sat in the rain, it may be burning off some of the chemicals/moisture that have built up on it..

unless itt's actually coming OUT of the valve cover somewhere.. and I can't think of what would cause that.

My friend's crx timing belt snapped and he left it outside for over a year until I fixed it. I was quite astonished, as far as I can tell there were no bent valves. When I first started the car I noticed that the valve cover seal was leaking oil and causing it to smoke profusely.... so you may want to double check that.

Also, after sitting for over a year, the water pump bearing went out so I had to replace it. I'd check if you are getting coolant circulated properly.

what happened if there is white smoke coming out of the exhaust manifold? And alot came out of the muffler as well. This problem had directed to oil running lean in the head and caused excessive wear on the cams, rocket arms. Any idea ?

sorry for changing subject.

Drain you rfuel and fill up with high octane. Old gas is bad to run.

Did it have an lumpy idle, ie it may have gone from ~700rpm to ~2500rpm up and down??? If so I'm thinking that it's your PCV valve... If you have a bad valve then your intake manifold vacuum is free to drink all the oil out of the crankcase... I've seen this problem a few times and it was fixed as easy as getting a new valve... As for the cams, I would keep an eye on them... Just the other day I my friend and I pulled apart another friend's LSVTEC cuz it was making a lot of valvetrain noise.. It turned out to be a flat cam.. (which I had never seen before) I guess once you wear through the heat tempering on those things they really go fast.. It also had excessive wear on the rockers.. So we popped my friend's Portflow head on there with some SK2 stage 2 cams and everything was fine... The kid that owns the car is waaaaaaay waaaaaay rich and his dad (which owns a dyno shop) paid for everything... He actually wanted his son to go with the stage 3 cams but my friend Scott and I figured that they would have a little too much overlap for only running PR3 slugs.... Oh well they're supposed to slap it on the dyno sometime and see what it can make... Good Luck and let us know when you get the problem fixed

Well, about the idle, it was lumpy, but once I replaced the ECU with a JDM ECU then it was fine. Anyhow the webcams are ruined and now I bought a second pairs. I haven't checked the PCV valve but since I have webcam cams, valve springs and retainer, I'm not sure if the stock lost motion assembly has the required travel distance with the mods. Aparently the motor was making some ticking noise from the first valve I think, at least around that area. And I was guessing it had to do with the LMA. Anyhow, after the motor was built, I had to get a vavle adjust after approx 1000 miles......
Anyways once the the cylinder is re-assembled I will put back the USDM ECU and check the idle in case it is the PCV vavle like you said, and I'll keep an eye on cams as well. Thanks for your reply and please let me know if you think of something else.
