Default Car won't start, white smoke from intake

That's right, I said white smoke from the intake. It all started yesterday driving home from work, i would give it a little gas and the car would jump around like I didn't know how to drive a stick. Then it started dying, now it will not start at all. It tires to start but after a few seconds i get a white cloud from the intake. I am assuming that it is just unburnt fuel.

Things i have tried
-New plugs and wires
-PCV valve
-Oil is a little dark but nothing out of the normal, also full
-Took off valve cover and everything looks in place

Any help would be appreciated.

Also I was looking in the IM and found a plastic mushroom shaped thing? This could be completely unrelated but I am at a loss. Will post pix of said plastic thing if needed.

Check your mechanical timing. Make sure your belt didn't jump. Thats what it sounds like to me.....

timing belt slipped. valve overlap. intake valves opening too early so exhaust gases are getting pushed back through the intake. cam and crank timing marks. they'll most likely not line up. reset timing belt correctly n ur good

timing light from auto zone. about $37 bucks theres instructions on how to connect it. once connected point it at the crank pulley and youll see some marks. you can only see it with the light. it should line up with the marks on the cover.

I adjusted the cam timing several times, it's kind of difficult for me to get it lined up with the motor in the car. When i go to wrap the belt around the cam, then the crank moves and causes it to fall out of alinement. I did it maybe 10 different times and got it to what seems like TDC and the car will now crank for a little bit longer but still will not start. Any tips or suggestions?

My thoughts are maybe its not the timing but something else?

use a breaker bar/ratchet and put it on the nut on the crank pulley. rest it against something (subframe/firewall) while the crank is at top dead. loosten timing tensioner, set the cam cam/cams at top dead, put belt on cam gear, tighten tensioner. manually turn over just to make sure timing is set and good. give er' a crank n all should b good.

I ran out of tries tonight after the battery started dying. I'll bring home the jump box and friend from work and get it exact. Thanks for the help. I will keep you guys informed.
