Default when setting timing, is it necessary to bipass the service connector?

on the c-speedracing.com website, it says that when setting ignition timing, you need to bipass the service connector in the passengerside under the glovebox. why is that? is it necessary to be done when setting timing? i'm looking to go turbo and i want to set my cams back to 0.0 and then set my ignition timing back accordingly to 16 degrees. (i have a b16 in a 93 coupe ex if it matters) thanks in advance

yes, i set the timing without jumping the connector, and it was way too advanced. after i set the timing the right way, it drove a lot better. you need to jump the connector to disable the computer from adjusting the ignition timing.

the service connector is under your glover box, with a green cover to it, the plug itself is a two pin plug and is blue

I belive so. If not, the computer either advances it or retards it at idle so you dont get a true reading
