What is wrong with my clutch/transmission??
Well, after taking a 20 mile trip to my local drag strip last friday nite, i noticed that there was a whining noise coming from the transmission area, and it got worse the more miles that i put on it. Very similar to the noise that it makes when the car is in reverse. It would do this in all gears. Then, when i would be out of gear, and pump the clutch pedal, there would be a clicking/squeaking noise coming from the transmission housing, right where the pressure plate is located. So at this point i decided to head home, and figure out the problem versus drag racing. So, im just about a mile from the house, and the car will absolutly not go into gear, so i slam it into second, it grinds a bit, then, it finally jumps in gear, and i can drive home the last mile to my house. First thing after getting home, i double checked to make sure the tranny fluid was at the appropriate level. It was. Next, i started pumping the clutch pedal a few times, to have a few friends listen to the clicking noise. After making it click about 12 times, the car died, when it was in neutral, and i fully let the clutch out. So at this point, i was able to start it back up, and pump it more, to make it click still. So i decided to tear the tranny out and inspect everything. I found yesterday, that the throwout bearing had excessive play, and the bearings sounded a little loose when i would shake it, as though there wasnt much lube in it. So replaced the bearing, and and got it started up tonite, only to find that it is still messed up, no whining noise. But it is hard to pull out of gear, even with the pedal fully depressed. And when i put it in gear, and depress the clutch pedal, and let me foot off the brake, and have someone try to push the car foward, it reacts the same as if the car where off, and you were in gear, and the clutch pedal was up. It will roll very slightly, then catch, and want to roll back to where it was. I did inspect the pressure plate and clutch disc while i had it apart, the only visual thing i noticed was that there were very minor and even grooves, worn into each of the fingers on the plate. Didnt seem like enough that it wouldnt drive right. Ive seen worse on worn clutches. All of the fingers on the plate were aligned perfectly, like new. And the surface on the plate looked still new, i could see the lines from when it was made. So, now im down to this:
1. Is the pressure plate worn enough(due to the throwout bearing heating up on my trip home), that i need to try adjusting the length of the pushrod on my clutch master cylinder?
2. Or do i have a broken pressure plate?
I cant imagine that adjusting the master cylinder would help out as much as i think i need help. At this point, it just feels to me like basically i cant depress my clutch pedal far enough to fully disengage my clutch, hence, difficulty pulling out of gear, and the car being stiff to push. But if that were the case, then i absolutly cant explain the clicking noise. Just in case it helps, im using a brand new 92'dx civic clutch master, and a new 95 integra slave cylinder. Ive got a 92 civic hatch with a b20vtec, with 98 itr tranny. Clutchmasters stage III clutch disc/pressure plate, clutchmasters lightweight flywheel, and clutchmasters pilot bearing, and clutchmasters throwout bearing. When i re-installed the bearing this time around, i didnt use any grease on the edge of the throwout bearing itself where it contacts the clutch, because i didnt have any hi temp honda urea something or other grease like the factory helm manual suggests. A friend said i would be okay if i didnt lube it. Maybe this is the cause?
Any suggestions or ideas on what to try would be greatly appreciated. Please help me, this is my only car, and my daily driver. THANKS ALOT

well, just thought i would post an update, to those who might read this in the future. I decided to tear into my transmission today. It turns out that when i replaced the 3-4 synchros, i installed the mainshaft bearing the wrong way, and it should only be installed one way. So this caused the bearing to not be able to handle load, thus creating heat, thus causing my 5th gear brass portion of the synchro seaze up on the taper ring that it rides on, and these need to be able to spin independently of eachother. So basically they were locked together. The reason it felt like my car was in gear, was because there is a small amount of play that the 2 seized parts can move together. Thus not letting the car roll too far foward, and not letting it roll too far backward. This was also obviously the cause of my screwy idle when i would work the clutch pedal because it was creating way too much friction. And the clicking noise was because of the bearing being installed backwards, and all the play that it had in it, it would click when the ***** were shifting in the races of the bearing. Hope this helps someone. Now ive got to buy a 5th/Reverse synchro sleeve set, taper ring, needle bearing, mainshaft bearing, and a spacer, all because i carelessly, unknowingly installed the mainshaft bearing backwards. I hope you all can learn from my mistake. Thanks for reading.

learning to play with trannys has a ceratin "curve" to it.
You screw a few times till you get it right.
1 tranny, 1 weekend, in/out 3 times.
BTW it really sucks when you finally get the tranny aligned then bolted to the block, the see the throwout bearing and clutch arm still laying on the floor.
