SEVERE tranny problems, grinding noise when clutch released
Ok heres the deal.
if i press the clutch down i can go through each gear with no problem but say i go into first then release the clutch there is a horrible grinding noise.
it does this with all the gears
also i can shift into each gear without using the clutch and it creates the same effect of the horrible grinding noise. in certan gears the spedo goes up like the wheels are spinning but they are not. jdmb16, no lsd.

Can't really make out for sure but does it feel like it's slipping? Revs with very little if any car movement?

if you are unable to move and its making that noise with the speedo moving sounds to me like a broken diff...cause i have gone through 2 so far from drag racing and big slicks, what i broke were the spider gears. i would pull the axle(s) and just check them out..

THats what im thinkin' Yer diif is screwed. The engine runs fine but when you clutch it into the drivetrain it grinds = drivetrain problem. It would most likely occur in the diif.
sorry

I would not go into your tranny and start working on it. It is a crazy maze in there, and to get at the diff you need to remove all the gears.(I took apart my old tranny for poo poos and giggles)
If you do decide to do it yourself, at least get a service manual...but that may be a problem with a Jspec tranny.

fluid is fine. no leaks just changed my damn engine.
please explain how your driveshaft was screwed?
do you mean the actual axle that runs from the tranny to the wheel?

Re: SEVERE tranny problems, grinding noise when clutch released (KAMiN)
Sounds like you spun an driveshaft in a CV joint. Easy to diagnose.
Lift the car off the ground.
Put it in 1st gear, and move one wheel. The other wheel should move in the opposite direction.
If it does, then grab the other wheel while rotating the opposite one.
LOOK at the axle shafts and make sure they are turning.
You can also do this while the car is running, but you'll need help.
The biggest key is to check that the axle is actually moving, that's how you'll know if you broke a CV joint spline.
My buddies car did exactly the same thing, and we spent 3 days trying to figure it out. Just out of dumb luck, after getting totally fustrated, he looked at the axle and it was moving, but the wheel wasn't. BAMM, broken CV spline.
YES! It sounds like the diff is screwed when this happens.

Re: SEVERE tranny problems, grinding noise when clutch released (B18C-EJ1)
UPDATE!
B18C-EJ1 was right.
i put my car on jackstands and threw it in first, the entire axle spins except for the outer cv joint. thank GOD because i litterally have 2.38$ in my bank account and this axle has a lifetime warranty.
thanks to EVERYONE!

Re: SEVERE tranny problems, grinding noise when clutch released (KAMiN)
All of these tranny, axel, and diff. problems are getting on my nerves i myself have already went through three trannys in a year and a half. I admit that i do alot of play racing but i only misshift like once a month at most and i have always used redline fluids so i know it is not me also i am always reeplacing my clutch. It just seems like most honda tranny's are prone to fail with constant high rpm shifts, espeially the D series trannys ....
sorry just had to rant...........
