Default Which Type R Motor for NA

I can buy a 98 Type R with a 440 differential for $4400 or a 2000 Type R with a 478 differential for $4500.

Which is better for NA Street/Strip use? If the prices seem high, It's because I'm in Puerto Rico.

Thanks!

Too much money. Look for a B18C1 or H22. Or even better, for that kind of money you could build a D series motor that would blow the doors off a Type R.

Tradeoff there, the 4.78 fd will get you out of the hole better, and the 4.40 will give you a bit better economy. Don't expect better than 25mpg even with the 4.40, though. My ex-roommate with a '97 ITR in a Civic turns 4500 RPM at 80mph on the highway, something to keep in mind. Personally I like the 4.40, get some sticky tires and a good clutch for track use and you'll still come out of the hole really well.

I agree that the 4.78 would get you out of the hole better, but in a street driven car, this may be overkill. Save the hundred, and get the 4.40

or go D16 and have about $2400 extra more than the B18C even.

Speaking of other options I have a friend who bought an EF, a B16, and some goodies to go with it all for less than the cost of a bone stock ITR motor.

between the 98 and the 00 Id go with the 00 cause of the gearing for track use.
