Default TPS issues, ( an issue that I have never ever encountered )

So I have a car come in its a 2000 civic si. Its throwing the tps code, ok so I set it with in spec and he is on his way. Well he calls me back and tell me its happening again.

So I look into it more, I should of caught it the first time but I have never ever seen this. When I test the volts and open the throttle, when it gets to 3.3... volts it will give me an OL reading ( meaning there is a short or an open ) .

So anyways I figured it was the tps, slapped a new one on and it happen in the same exact spot.

So what do you guys think it could be ?

The check engine light will only come on every now and then, it could be fine for weeks but then just one day it comes on.

It's probably a loose or frayed wire somewhere. It's quite rare for the TPS to just crap out, most of the time it's either a wiring issue or it gets broken by someone.

See I thought about that and looked over the wire, its all fine.

How would the wire only be shorting out at 3.3.. volts. It never shorts out any other time.

Which wire are you probing?

The right ones

Green which is ground
Red which is fluctuating

I mean I know electricity and circuits, but it don't make sense if there was a wire problem why it would only do this at 3 volts, and then continue to 4 volts. I mean after it shorts out, it catches again.

I put a brand new tps on there and its doing it in the same spot, so if its not the tps, and not the wiring, that leaves the throttle body or ecu.

Wiseguy huh?

Have you checked the grn/blk wire to make sure it's getting a good ground?

The yel/blu wire should be showing a reference voltage about 5v.

Checking the pin fit/condition at the sensor and ECU may be a good idea too.

Also you checked to see if the wires have good resistance throughout the line from TPS to the ECU itself. That way you can eliminate the wires as the problem.

Checked the pin at the ecu, its tight.

Checked the reference volt, that's fine. Ground is good.

I'm stumped.

Any other ideas ?

I just put a brand new combined throttle body and tps that was never removed or touched so its oem set. Will see if this helps.

I'd like to solve the puzzle

Its called the FITZ valve and its located right underneath the throttlebody. Sometimes it comes a little unsscrewed causing the idle to surge.

Its called an fitv , and it has nothing to do with the tps voltage, you've been out in the sun to long bro

Or the cocaine has been taking its toll, the fitv has nothing to do with it.

Here is how I see it, its either

TPS, throttle body, wiring, ecu

I replaced the whole throttle body and tps and its still going on. The old throttle body had a small hole in it, because my coworker drilled a small hole in it, and well I already explained the tps shorting out at 3 volts, so I thought it was the tps. So that leaves, the wiring and ecu. Oh yeah
