Default swap overheating!!!?

i just swaped a d16z6 into my 89 lx (or so my signature says) however the damn thing is overheating. It is relatively fine when i am driving except when i am going for a while in 1st and 2nd, and when i am idling for a while. In 3rd and higher it usually drops to normal. I hooked up a fan that i can toggle on and off cause it thought my stainless steel headers might be the cause but not much has changed although my engine bay stays pretty cool now, any suggestions?

Coolant level, Radiator Cap. Water pump. Fan, radiator,

Check radiator for full distribution of fluid by driving car until "hot" and feel the front of the radiator in many different places if it is cold in one area you need to either have it rodded or replaced.

Cap should be able to build up pressure to keep coolant from boiling.

Brand new from store or brand new used?

Still wouldn't hurt to check it, from factory could have issues.
