Default setting timming

hey guys! was wondering if yaw can help a brother out? I need to set the timming on my ls/vtec but i dont know what it should be set at since its a hybrid if that makes any difference. Im sorry i have to bug all of you to help me out. but the guy i use to go to is no longer with us and so im determined to learn all this stuff my self. So if any one can help me please do because i want to drive my car but i cant cuz its just not running right so im just checking over every thing there is to check. Now as far as setting the timming i know the 3 marks that are on the crank pully and i dont know which is which. thanks in advance any help will be greatly appreciated.

Well, I'm not sure what difference the hybrid would make... but here's what the marks are all about.

Traditionally, there's 4 timing marks on the crank pulley. One all by itself is TDC, you'd use that for camshaft timing.

Then there's 3 more, close together. Middle, bigger one is factory spark timing, the smaller ones cover the +/- tolerance.

the large white mark on the crank pulley is TDC. There are three marks like jim said. the red with the two close marks are for ignition timing. Ls Vtec cam timing should be the same as any other b series motor.

depending on your compression, but stock is 16 +/- 2
