Default Head work

Hey, I was thinkin since I have 175,000 miles on my engine, i should rebuild my head. I want to upgrade for some HP gains without compensating daily driver ability. Better valves, springs and roller rockers (unless of course there is a better valvetrain piece altogether) etc have always improved the power of V8s but its a bit different for imports, ive noticed. The engine is a stock D15B7 (im not swapping. nope.) non-vtec obviously, but i will be swapping a D16A6 cam in and i want to make it as easy as possible for the cam to work. The car is a sedan 92 civic dx. I would appreciate any feedback on what brands to use, what i should see for a difference, etc. please help, I can t find much on the zerothreads.

If you want to upgrade the head, besides the basic rebuild, you should start by the cam and work your way, bigger cams needs higher revs; so the need for stiffer valve springs, valves; i think stock is appropriate unless FI(or if you want some more compression, but to me not worth it).

Edit:stock cam wont need any valvetrain upgrades.Upgrading the springs(stiffer) is going to be harder on cam/retainer/timming belt...not easier

With 175k on the ticker Id start with the bottom end first.

thank you, may i have some suggestions for bottom end work tha may need attention first? so theres nothing i can do to my head to improve its functions? your valve spring response is right, but what of valves, and rockers?

well the bottom end prolly needs a rebuild too(gaskets, bearings, rings, etc.).
valves are pretty expensive for what the gains that you would get....a little more compression or a little lighter.stronger? yes, but you really dont need aftermarket valves for a mild build.
Rockers......well there aren't any aftermarket roller rockers.
You could look into doing a mini me swap

edit: read this threads, pretty informative:

Thank you, but the mini me wouldn t do much for my engine, the cam would do infinitely more. which bearings are u talking about? the crank bearings? piston rings and gaskets eh? i haven t noticed any leaks or anything of that nature, but i imagine your completely right, my bottom end could use some freshening. only shitty part is, its my daily driver, if i start tearin **** up, ill have nothin. i was gonna do a bit more to the engine, but im only lookin for little mods to make it faster, not like replacing pistons and things like that, so im kinda not sure what more to do besides the cam, maybe a different intake manifold and header. im pretty new with imports, but if it was a v8, id go right to work. damn you future technology...
