Default RSX won't power down when key removed...

alright guys, this isnt my car... but unfortunatly i am fixing the problems that the builder couldnt figure out... its a long story but anyway.

heres the backround on the car:
its a 2002 rsx-s that was recently rhd swapped (firewall)
from what i know, the cabin harness and engine harness are UDSM (USDM fuse boxes, usdm cluster, etc) also the car does not run.

when you turn the key to the accesory possition (where the fuel pump kicks on) and then turn the ignition off and pull the key out... the ecu, cluster and windows still have power going to them even with the key out. (see picture)

the guy who built the car said he tested the relays and check the fuse boxes and they all check out fine... but who knows.

the ecu works, i tested it in a k series del sol.. so the immobilizer and all that works, the car fired up and ran so i know its not an ecu problem... the reason why i say this is because once i figure out why the accesories stay on, i need to figure out why the car wont start ugghhh.

one thing i noticed is the oem alarm and keyless does not work, and i dont even know if the dude put that back in the car.

the only thing i can think of to why the power stays on is a short in the wiring or a stuck main relay or something like that... so i need some input on what you guys think..

and the topper to this entire project is that the roll cage goes through the dash so the dash cant come out.

lmk what you guys think and please ask questions if you got em. its hard to explain this problem so im doing the best i can, any input is appreciated!

Thanks
Mike

Something is definitely mis-wired.

A few questions...

You said, "when you turn the key to the accesory possition (where the fuel pump kicks on)" the fuel pump, [and cluster] should not come on untill ign. switch is in run, not acc., did you mean in the run position?

You said, " then turn the ignition off and pull the key out... the ecu, cluster and windows still have power going to them even with the key out." does that mean nothing is on untill you turn on the ign., and it just does not turn off, if so, how do you turn it off?

You said, "i need to figure out why the car wont start ugghhh." does that mean the engine will not turn over, [crank] or it turns over, [starter works] but engine will not start?

Is car an automatic or standard? 94

if your getting power to the whole car with the key out my first thought would be that there is something mis wired on the ignition slot

fcm,

i did mean the run possition my bad. when i connect the battery everything is normal. the cabin lights work and all but as soon as the key is turned over to the run, everything kicks on like normal, HOWEVER the immobilizer key does not go away(car has hondata that works)... no check this, i was messin with the car the other day and i turn the key to run, and i hear the fuel pump not kick on... so i pull the key out and sure enough everything powers down... i only have this issue when the fuel pump kicks on so its intermittin(spelling?)

Yes, nothing is on until the ignition is turned, and to power the car down i dissconnect the neg battery cable.

when i say the car wont start, i have no crank. i was lookin around and found fuse one (cabin fuse box) blown and that fuse is on the ignition coil circuit. so i replaced that and it hasnt popped yet... but then again the motor wont crank so we will see..

another issue i stumbled on is the clutch safety switch is not wired... so i found the female plug and jumped the 2 wires to see if the car would crank now... and it doesnt.. BUT when the key is turned to start.. instead of the car cranking, the radiator fan kicks on, and as soo and you take it off start and back to "run" then the fan kicks off. but if "unjump" the 2 wires on the safety switch then the can will not kick on and still no crank. I JUST WANNA RIP MY HAIR OUT!

the car is a 6speed type s

ef9ridda,
thats what i thought too, but with the key out, and everything still powered on, i can disconnect the igition unit and the power still stays on.

thanks for the help guys really appreciate the interest

Is there an alarm in the car or a kill switch for the fuel pump, [relay]?

Something is definitely mis-wired, I would guess a relay.

Another question..

Will the car stay "powered up" if the key is just turned to run then off, or do you have to go all the way to start and then turn it off for the car to stay powered up.

I have a feeling the starter relay has something to do with your problem, I would think it would have to be a relay that is "latching" and back-feeding power to the ign. switch to power the car after key is pulled and you are having a problem with starting.

So start with a bypass jump, using a jumper lead with one end connected to the batt. pos.(+), unplug the starter lead from the starter solenoid, touch the jumper to the terminal on the solenoid, (((((CAUTION))))) make sure car is NOT in gear, engine will crank even if car is in gear and ign. switch is off.

If engine cranks, check wiring to starter relay.

I would also check the ign. switch harness...
White is 12V constant, hot at all times.
Black/white is starter, hot only when cranking to start, key in start position.
Black/yellow is ign. power, hot in run and start.
Black/red is acc.1 power, hot in acc. and run.

Neither the acc.1 or 2 should be hot when cranking to start.

I would depin the two acc. leads to eliminate them as the feed-back, then the starter lead. 94
White/red is acc. 2 power hot in acc. and run.

he needs a new main harness. there is a short somewhere. it would just be easier to buy a new one and install it than tring to find out where its shorted
