The right way to LS/VTEC?
Ok so the stock LS bottom end has a bas r/s ratio and thus works too hard with the vtec head and can't rev too high. What could be some cost-effective ways to stabilize the LS bottom end to turn out more RPMs?
In my case I've got a 94 B18B1 long block and a bunch of gsr parts minus the head and TB. I have a set of JDM ITR pistons, and among the gsr parts, gsr rods/pistons. I want to use the Type-R pistons, of course. I was wondering how the gsr rods would change the r/s using the stock LS crank. I'm starting to get in way over my head so that's why I'm coming here. Any insight welcome!

you cant use gsr rods with a ls crank.
for the bottom end you can add the gsr griddle, make sure to get it dowelled, shootpen the rods and your good to go.
some people say to add oil squirters, but i dont think is nessesary

I was thinking about that, wondering if the girdle would bolt right on with the oil pickup and windage tray all out of the way? What would be involved in getting it doweled? And use the LS rods but shotpeen em, I dunno cuz they've got 140k miles?
Use ARP head studs, the ones for GSR or vtec motors or the ones for the LS?
I need to know whether to use the GSR head gasket or the LS one.. got an ebay auction I'm watchin
Also wonderin how much machine work costs.. for crank balancing, shot-peening, flywheel shavin, cylinder honin, deck checkin or whatever else needs to be done?

I meant rod studs. I thought we were taking about the bottom end. Head studs are a good idea too use the gsr studs with a ls block and vtec head. ls head gasket. you get what you pay for when it comes to machine work. here's a rough idea.
balancing $100
Peening $50
Fly wheel lightened and balanced $100
bore hone and deck $150
micropolish crank $40
line bore if neccesary $250

yea someone els told me to use better rod studs as well.. I'll **** the ones off the GSR rods
I also have some stock GSR head studs.. could I reuse them? All the GSR parts I have are either new or look barely used so I'm guessing it's very low-mileage.
Thanks a lot for the info!

you should consider getting:
new arp rod bolts
new arp headstuds
new ls headgasket
gsr waterpump
gsr oilpump
gsr timming belt.
you say you have most of these parts so your halfway there. you should also consider that edyn oilfilter thing so you dont have to tap the back of your block. it looks cleaner also
