Default LSVTEC???can you use b18's

ok my mechanics and i have a few parts lieing around and were contemplating what we can do with it...
these are the parts we have

GSR b18c1 block
jdm gsr pistons and rods
GSR b18c1 head

the gsr crank is destroyed so we were thinking....

in a basic LSVTEC its just a b18 block with a LS crank but with typeR or equivilant rods and pistons, i may be wrong but im trying to remember.

so what we are thinking is use the b18c1(gsr) block and head with the jdm rods and pistons, but find an LS crank and toss it in and make an LSVTEC, but minus the oil lines and tapping...

can someone tell me weither or not this works with these parts.

The rod lenghts are different from the LS/CRV and the VTEC B's.

LS rods and LS crank......everyone already swaps the pistons so Stay with the GSR's.

I don't know how well the LS crank fits in the GSR block!!!!!

well yeah thats the next thing, but all B series blocks are cast basically the same, so i dont see why it would be completly different. but thats why having the motor out of the car is a good thing

The LS counter weights on the crank hit the piston oilers in the GSR block , but you can get around that if you are creative. You must use LS rods and bearings or Eagle, Crower LS rods.

Why not buy a b18c crank and do it right? As others have posted, u can't use gsr rods with ls crank.

hmm ok

so LS crank and LS Rods

B17 is a 92-93 GSR motor.
Basically same as B16 motor with only a different crank which ups the displacement to 1.7 liters.

Any B18A or B18B engine will work in terms of crank and rods. Also the B20b and B20Z engines use the same/similar crank and rods. The B17 parts will be very different than LS parts.

I also agree with earl, why not get another GSR crank and use that. If your bent on having a LSVtec or CRVtec set-up....have the block sleeved to 84mm. That is what I would opt to do if I had that B18C1 block collecting dust.

Remember to use ARP rod bolts no matter what configuration you choose! Stock rod bolts will make you cry someday! Good luck!

we just wanted to see if it would work just going over things in my head here,

you guys are getting all crazy in here

these are the numbers we got off of our repair software

LS Displacement - 112 CU (is actually 111.89)
bore - 3.19" 81mm
stroke - 3.50" 89mm
rod C to C (crower) 5.394

GSR displacement - 110 CU(is actually 109.65)
bore - 3.19" 81mm
stroke - 3.43" 87.1mm
rod C to C - (crower) 5.433

so the rod lenght difference is somthing like .039

but with the LS rods abd LS crank with GSR pistons, it would work....

yes it is kind of unorthadox to not use a GSR crank but having an 89mm stroke would make it real torque bastard

but hey whatever, it was just a question....

so what you are all saying we should do it toss in a GSR crank, with the JDM pistons and rods, and bore it to 84mm(well if we bore it the new pistons are a must)

hmm interesting trying to square up the motor i see, that maybe the better idea.

thanks for the input

No, i am in the middle of a big ls/vtec project and I have researched many things. This was among them. It is not possible. Well it is but it will not be powerful. What you can do is get a stroker kit...If I had it to do all over again, that is what I would do! I think crower makes one. Good luck!

im not sure what you mena by itt will no be powerful, yes maybe it wont have crazy amounts of horespower, but when ever you stroke and engine you tend to create more torque, and thats what gets you movin...

im not sure what reserch you did but it will work and it will make good power, i actuall meet someone in town that did it and check out there setup and went for a little ride, it pulls gooood, we were pullin on all sorts of cars

i will not buy a crower stroker kit because it puts to much strain on the sides of the piston, and prematurely wears out the internals, thats what i have seen, but it could be other decciding factors too, but i would rather use something hnda has put into a b series block.....
