Default P1298 Error: no solutions found

So about 3 weeks ago, my EP3 started delaying when trying to start it. It would take multiple attempts to start, or long drawn out attempts. Two days ago, I noticed a slight loss in power through all RPM's, and a complete loss in power over 5,000...like VTEC was no longer functioning. That same day, a check engine light finally threw. OBD scanner pulled up a p1298 (High Voltage Load), and a p0171 which I'm almost positive is simply related to the first code.

My problem is...there could be a dozen different things that could cause a p1298 and I have no idea where to start.

On a side note, I installed 3 after market gauges probably a month ago in prepartion for my turbo install. All are fused, 12v ignition wire runs straight to the interior fuse box where I added 3 circuits with 10a fuses. Boost, Oil Pressure, and A/F narrow band are the gauges installed. A/F reads optimal while at steady throttle like it's supposed to...

Other than pulling the 12v constants that I have wired straight to the battery for the accessories, and check the one T-clamp I had to use instead of soldering to wire the A/F gauge to the O2 sensor signal wire that runs into the ECU...I have no idea what it could be.

I actually broke down and took it to Honda, and they gave me the typical response. "We're unable to diagnose the problem without replacing all aftermarket parts with factory parts".
Any suggestions, or has anyone experienced the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Going to pull that one t-clamp, strip all of the plastic, and solder the two signal wires (AF gauge and O2 sensor wire) like I should have in the first place.

In the mean time, any input would be great.

P0171 is a lean code, your car may be going into limp mode to protect it in a lean condition. The other code I am not 100% sure of but it may be related to the eld (electronic load detector). If this all happened soon after you did the wireing you may want to go over what youve done and double check your work.

Yeah that's the plan, hopefully that will fix it...hopefully. Will let you know how it goes.

Pretty legit dtapia, thank you. Any idea of the cost of a new ELD if it comes down to that? I'm guessing you can only purchase that from honda.

That bulletin jogged my memory. I did one at work on a civic a few years ago. Is pretty easy to do, in a fuse or relay block on the passenger side in the engine bay if I remember correctly.

I had the same problem: P1298 ELD problem. I have an 01 Civic LX and had a 2003 LX parts car. I replaced the ELD in my car from the parts car and to no avail! Still the P1298 code check engine light. I called Honda Parts and was told it was probably a defective ELD. He said the defective part covered years 2001-03, and that is probably why the 03 one didn't work. He said they had a new updated part. I bought the new ELD for around $30 and installed it in the under-the-hood fuse box. And "YES", the new part worked. No check-engine-light the past few weeks. So, if your getting a p1298 code, please don't put yourself through the time-consuming trouble of checking all the electric circuits. Just get a new ELD from honda and your problem will be solved.
