optima battery install
sup guys,
im about to install my new yellow top optima battery in the trunk. i had a couple of questions for those who had already done a battery relocation to the trunk, or just battery experts.
1) i have a amplifier ground wire that i put near the spare tire area. can i put the battery ground in the same place, or do i need a new ground area for the battery ground?
2) is it ok to just solder the positive cable to my monster cable up in the engine bay and then tape it up?
3) what should i do with the ground cable in the engine bay? tape it up and zip tie it somewhere?
4) should i install a fuse for the positive cable going to the battery?
thanks

well i did it completly different from your idea....i gotta say that its probably the smartest thing i ever did....anyways
you should use one of the strut tower bolts for the ground (it slips right on the thread of the strut and the bolt goes right on it
for the positive....i made use of the positive terminal in the engine bay and i put the loop of the aftermarket cable (the one that runs from the trunk) in between the bolt that tightens up the terminal to the battery.....if that makes any sense.
good luck..make sure there isnt any wires exposed or your gunna have probs

the ground should be heavy gauge and be bolted to the chassis near the battery, make sure there is good metal/metal contact here.
2) is it ok to just solder the positive cable to my monster cable up in the engine bay and then tape it up?
i suggest you use clamp style connectors that use grub screws to secure battery power connections. power cable should be at least 4GA or about 1/2 inch thick OFC cable and should have a thick sheaf
3) what should i do with the ground cable in the engine bay? tape it up and zip tie it somewhere?
this should attach the the chassis securely with good metal/metal contact and then also attach to the engie block/gearbox
4) should i install a fuse for the positive cable going to the battery?
YES - a 150amp fuse located no more than 6 inches from the battery should be installed
thanks
no problem

ok thanks for the help but you are confusing me.
the first question i asked if i can put my ground wire in the same location as the ground wire of my amplifier? i.e. touching...
what about your answer to the third question? where do i put the ground wire? attach it to the chassis? what are you talking about?

yep they can touch but it has to be a solid chassis connection.
OK, the engine needs to be grounded, that is - touching the chassis - which is touching the battery.
normally the under bonnett battery -ve terminal attached to the chassis and the engine.
now the engine can be connected directly to the chassis - so you can remove the engine to battery connection but must keep a thick chassis to engine connection.
hope this is a bit clearer

be sure to secure it WELL! not just bolts into the plastic into the steel. last car i had, i relocated the battery to the trunk. the force from the wreck threw the battery accross the trunk, out of it being bolted into the steel with 4 bolts, ripped both wires out, and cracked the battery open to leak into the trunk.
