Default advancing timing on 00 Si?

i have a 00 Si with I/H/E and i want to advance my timing but i don't know how much? i think the stock timing is at 16 degrees and i heard that 18 would be enough without signs of detonation...is that true? plus is it really worth doing...is there that much of a gain on a simple mod?

It's a good mod. Do it. Gains about 5hp.
