Ok, VTEC not working????
Ok, i really need more help, i have checked so much **** on this car and it still does not engage (vtec). I switched ecu's with my bro, he has same set up and we know his vtec works. I switched solenoids. I hard wired it off the computer instead of harness . Oil level is perfect. I dont know what to do. Here is one question i have, i know that oil pressure is VERY important for vtec to engage. Could my oil pump be bad, but i know there is oil coming in the head, and when i took off the solenoid, oil came out, but maybe there just is not enough pressure so the oil pump is weak? is that possible?? The other thing i did not check yet is the whole oil pressure switch thing under the solenoid. What do u guys think?? Also, this might help or hint someone as to waht it is , the vtec used to just cut in and out before it completely broke, i would accelerat hard and u could feel it cut in and out, so it must be something that slowly just broke, so any ideas????
ok this may seem kinda premature and perhaps rice... but i'll take my chances...
can't u just install a vtec light and then see if the light will go off at 5500rpm?? cuz on a sohc... vtec cross-over isn't like the one on dohc that will snap ur head back... so isn't it kinda hard to know when it crosses over? if you have a short ram intake... then u'll hear it clearly... but how about trying the vtec light? but for sure make sure ur oil if filled up and engine at normal operating temp.

You should get an oil pressure gage and test to see how much pressure your getting. I know that you check your oil level and it was fine but, a friend of mines car did the same thing vtec cut in and out. His oil level was low, that is why I think that it could be a pressure problem.

When your low on oil it'll make a low pressure situation. The pressure sensor will shut down the vtec till there is enough pressure. Check to see what your pressure is, it won't hurt.
You can either get a permanent one like autometer or just go to a parts store and pick up a mechanical gage. The mechanical one is fast and easy to use just find an oil port and screw it in there.
no, i havent fixed it yet. I get a CEL when i run the car up to like 8 grand, it kicks on, but resets when i shut car off, what do u thnk? I think it may be oil pressure, so i need a new oil pump, maybe?????
Make sure you let the car sit for 15 minutes on idle before trying to hit Vtec. Vtec is oil temp activated unless you used a hondata and changed it to rpm activation.
