Default vtec problem

I have a turbo s2000 experiencing some challenges with vtec engagement. When the car is starts up from a long extended shut down we are able to activate vtec, however, once the car warms up the vtec does not engage. The oil pressure is fine a bit above 60psi and rising when in vtec range. The oil was changed several times with the attempt to eliminate any concerns with viscosity breakdown. The car does have an oil cooler, but there is plenty of oil (6qts) and temps are fine. The turbo is getting oil from a tee off the oil pressure sending unit. The oil pump is new and we checked the vtec solenoid by manually triggering it and it works fine. AEM acknowledges the vtec is on so the signal from the ECM is okay...I assume it has something to do with the pressure...any thoughts..before I take things apart. Thanks

The wheels don't break loose anymore when VTEC hits.

Isn't there a way to lock the VTEC on with the AEM?
