Odyssey 680 Dry cell question
Just checking in to see who is currenty using one or any lighter dry cell battery and if they have had any issues with the battery dscharging itself because of have gauges and ecus on the car?My car currectly has all accesories and running a wideband, boostgauge, emenage ect.. I know this battery will start the car but it seems many people that are running them do not have AC or PS or much in their car for that matter. Anyone have any issues? oh and does anyone know where I can find a sealed battery box for this size battery? (I did search and couldn't find this answer) thanks for all the help.
With the exception of a very small trickle for the clock and ECU, all that other equipment shouldn't be draining anything when the car is off. All batteries do self-discharge over a long enough period of time, but if you drive you car regularly that won't be a problem.
As far as once the car is started/running all that stuff is powered by the alternator anyway. The battery doesn't really come into play then. The only time you would use the battery reserve would be prior to and while starting the engine. I doubt a wideband/gauges/etc. add up to more than a few Amps, so unless you sit there in the accessory on mode for long time that shouldn't be a problem either.
The Odyssey 680 as you mentioned is a "dry cell", specifically a sealed lead-acid (SLA) design. You typically don't need a sealed battery box for these types of batteries. Some sanctioning bodies may require it nonetheless (I'm not familiar with drag rules), but road-race and auto-x rules don't require a sealed box for this type of battery. Most people just use some type of bracket to mount these, here is one you can get from SummitRacing.com specifically for the Odyssey 680:
