Imobilizer swap?
the ECU in my car blew up so I will be picking up a 97 ecu here in a couple days. Due to the imobilizer being there I assume that the car wont start right off the bat.
Can I just swap the imobilizer from my old ECU? (skill is not an issue) or will it not make a difference? I know in the lude the actual imobilizer box is in the dash however the signal still goes through the circuit in the ECU.
If that will work, does anyone know where on a prelude ECU that the imobilizer chip is?
for safety reasons if anyone wants to chat about this off of HT hit me up on AIM or yahoo at shakes00lude and we can just use pics of my ECU.
thanks!

If you're talking P5M ECUs it's the little daughter board that is soldered vertically, on the opposite end of the PCB as the connectors. Just swap them and it will work. If you are using a '97 ECU on a '99+ car it will not start after you fill it up with gas. Something to do with a two-way valve in the tank if I remember correctly.

I wish. I found it out the hard way when I did the auto to manual swap on my girlfriend's '99. The car ran great until it left her stranded at the gas station after it was just filled up. It took me a couple of days and alot of research to figure out what was going on.

Hear it? I lived it. It can be found by researching the Helms manuals and using the process of elimination.

The 2-way valve isn't going to cause a no start condition. It's for the evaporative emission system only. Neither is filling your gas tank unless you fill it with diesel.

If you don't believe me, that's fine. You obviously have never experienced it for yourself. We will wait for Shakes to report his findings. I'm 100% confident in myself.

hi whats up. just wanted to fill you in with some info. you have a type 1 immobolizer wich uses a key, recievier , immobilizer control unit and ecu.
the key gives the reciver a code then then sends the code to the icu if the codes match then the ecu will energized the starter cut off relay. if not the relay will have no power. what you have to do to fix your prediciment. is to go to honda with one of your keys, and they will have to rewrite you ecu for the key code you have at this time. they will most likly charge you 1 hour labor.

If he has a soldering iron and some skill he can just swap daughter boards.

that i do have.
and to remidy the gas situation, ill just fill up in vista and let jim come to my rescue so he can say "told you so!"

I confirm this. I swapped auto to 5 speed and I used 5 speed '97 ECU on my '99 and every damn time i filled the gas the car did not want to start. I had to keep one foot half way on the gas and started. If i let off the gas the car would die again, so I had to hold the foot on the gas for like 10 mins before i could let it go and the car won't die. IT IS TRUE! The problem went away when I replaced it with my stock "auto to 5speed mod" ECU .

Unfortunately I didn't investigate it that far. I was simply doing a auto to manual swap, so I ended up converting the '99 auto ECU to manual. It is most likely one solenoid driver, along the lines of the EVAP purge circuit, but even if you added the additional parts to the ECU it may still not work. There is a different part number for the ROM file on the '99+ ECUs that I have seen. My '97 is 525 where the '99 is 565.

hmm.. maybe i should just scrap the 97 ecu for the parts to fix the 00 ecu.

it wouldnt be hard to rebuild that foil run, just time consuming is all. then pull the IC off of the 97 ecu and anything else that ends up being fried.

So the ECU was "fixed" today. don't know if it works or not because the car still wont fuc<U></U>king start. I am still getting a solid CEL (dead ecu).
We (my boss as I watched and learned) removed the blown chip from the '00 ecu and replaced it with the one from the '97 ECU. same part. STA315A (sanken chip, power transistor). then cleaned off the back, checked all the other connections and foil runs near it with a multimeter and everything was good. Then he put the wire on the back to replace the foil run.
i checked all of the wiring, heat shrunk a wire that was exposed which was the VTEC pressure switch.
on the old chip, the pin that fried led to "A26---red/blu-------IAB Control Solenoid Valve"
I checked that wire and it seems to be ok so far. i will ohm it out this weekend.

I really ******* hate my car right now. I just want it fixed so it can sit in the garage again until I get something with a warranty
