not a honda
My friend drives a 88 dodge caravan, and every once in a while it shuts off. He says that the temp gauge will rise 3/4 and then die. I am wondering if this is a fail safe thing or if something else is wrong. He has done all the coolant stuff, thermostat, tubes, cap and flush, and put in new fluids. But still gets hot, next would be the radiator.
Why would the car just shut off though?
Can anyone help me out?

My mom had a 92 or 93 Caravan with a similar problem. In that case it was a bad ECU that caused it to die with absolutely no warning. The dealer replaced it under warrantee. Not sure if this is the same thing or not.
The funny thing is some guy cut him off yesterday and when he slammed on the brakes the car died also. So I am thinking a fuel problem maybe, frozen lines, clogged filter along those lines. But the temp thing is weird.
yeah fan works, we replaced all sensors and relays when we did the fluid change. It is very weird.
His a/c doesn't work, so its not like he is overdoing the motor. it just wont keep cool, so most likely saturday we will replace the radiator.
the stalling thing is another issue.
thanks
