Default No fuel pressure

In the ongoing D16Y8 no-start saga..

My bro and I installed his fuel filter on my car because it has a B&M gauge on it. The car's not getting enough fuel pressure. After priming 10+ times it gets about 20psi and that drops within about 5 seconds down to 0psi. But you can start it with 20psi it runs until it stalls itself out after a couple seconds.

We just installed a B&M adjustable FPR thinking that the stocker was blown out, but it's the same problem. No fuel pressure

Anyone have any ideas? Pump is priming, we can hear it, and pressure jumps a few psi each time it primes.

Bad fuel pump or a restricted line. 20 psi isn't enough.

Only thing I can really think of, which sounds really gay, but I'm guilty of doing something not-so-inteligent in the past... is that holley pump an inline pump, yet is it in backwards??

No, it's in-tank. The strainer only fits on one way so there'd REALLY have to be something screwy going on if that were the case

Yeah, sorry, it was kind of an "out there" possibility. I hate ignition and fuel problems, they're not fun to diagnose. Did you try returning the fuel filter back to stock? I guess I'd give that a shot and see what happens, but good luck with this one, doesn't sound like it's gonna be too much fun.

so it could be a blockage in the line huh? How would I go about checking that out?? just seems odd that it primes fine (with a little gurgling noise) yet delivers so little fuel. 2-4 psi, then down to zero...

oh, I already tried using the fuel filter in its stock form, and it made no difference.

You check it out by measuring the amount of fuel it delivers. Not pressure, its different from volume. A restriction can cause high pressure and decrease volume.

ok, so can you give me a rough idea on how to do this properly? I must warn you, I know very little about the fuel system.

Well, here's an update!

Pulled the fuel pump out. Now, I noticed that when I disconnected the return line, it dripped gasoline everywhere. Normally I would not think that this is strange, but the funny thing is this; The main feed line was dry. It dripped NO gas out whatsoever! even the banjo bolt was completely dry!!!! What gives with this? I also noticed that one of my connections was loose as well, so I'll tighten that and see what happens. Help?
