Default MSD 6A Problem (Intermittent starting)

Has anyone here had problems with their MSD 6A ignition? I have heard that some of them burn out or something similar to that. I have one on my 94 Lude and am experiencing intermittent starting problems. I may need to put the stock coil back on to troubleshoot this problem.

Thanks

what do you mean intermittent starting? i have an msd 6A too and it's giving me a headache. i got a turbo timer and each time i turn off the ignition the turbo timer transition is not smooth. the idle will drop immediately to the point of stalling then idle will shoot up to 1500rpm then drop to normal idle. it's pissing me big time.

Initially, the engine just shut off when it was at a stoplight. I was able to get it back started, but it has happend 3-4 more times and each time, it gets harder to start. I disconnected the negative batt cable to reset the ecu, but no luck. It starts sometimes, then cuts off. Sometimes it will not start at all. It just turns over.

I think it is either the MSD 6a being faulty or the igniter inside of the coil. I have also heard that the Main PGM-FI Main relay could be a problem.

try checking your connections. if not then MAYBE the igniter, coil or the relay is the culprit.

When I switch the key to the "on" position, I hear the fuel pump and I also get all of the warning lights on for a few seconds. (Which is normal) I heard that I would not get the engine check light on if the PMG-FI relay was bad. So count that one out.

I'm leaning towards the Ignitor based upon the people that I have spoken with. (Honda parts persons & service guys) I am under the assumption that the MSD Ignition & Coil may have caused a premature burn out of the Ignitor??? Just speculation. Maybe the higher voltage into a stock distributor unit can cause this problem?
