Speedometer Problems...
First of all, does my speedometer need to be working for vtec to work? If not then screw the speedo I wont use it.
If it does which everyone tells me then I need to get it workin. Ive located the problem down to wiring on the harness side. In the helms manual the blue/white wire coming off the speed sensor should have 5v. Well my blue/white wire is reading 9v for some reason. The book says this means there is a short somewhere in the blue/white wire. I have a 96 integra with a chipped P28. Can anyone tell me how to find the short or re-wire the whole thing?

Your speedometer doesn't have to be working in the cluster as tho it would if you had a mechanical VSS but it your VSS has to pulse indicating that the car is moving in order for VTEC to kick... Pull out your VSS out with the harness connected... You'll want to check to see that you are gettin 4 5VDC pulses for every one revolution... I don't know exactly how you would be getting 9 since the input voltage to the VSS is 12 volts and the output is 5... The other wire comin off the VSS is just the ground... I would probe the two power wires and see if you notice anything unusual... I don't really see how a short would cause you to get an additional 4 volts out of the signal wire unless a resistor in the VSS went out... Anyways Good Luck and keep us posted... Peace
