Default lightweight flywheel causing misfire codes

after installing an exedy flywheel it seems to run rough in the morning and sets multiple cylinder misfire codes. Has anyone else had this problem and is there any way to fake the computer out?

Thanks,
Rob

check your spark plug wire order (1-3-4-2). You obviously did something to the dizzzy. Replace it with a known good one.

I did all of that. I work on Honda's for a living but I have never seen anything like this. I have put a lot of lightweight flywheels on and this has never happened. I checked everything right down too injector duty cycle. Its all normal. I have NOOO idea what the hell is wrong with it

Does the cel flash while driving. If not here are some things to check:

Fuel injector clogging, fuel leakage, air leakage
Fuel injector circuit open or shorted
Spark plug carbon deposits, fouling, malfunction
Ignition wires open, leaking
Distributor malfunction
Compression low
Valve clearance out of spec
HO2S
HO2S circuit

Some of these would be more likely if it is coding just one cylinder. The rest if it is coding on all cylinders.

I havn't heard of any problem running light flywheels, but theres a first time for everything.

Do you work for Honda or Acura? Does the new scantool work on Acuras? I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Yes, the new scan tool work on both Honda and Acura's. I like the touch screen features. Alot better than the PGM-FI scan tool.

Anyways, If this guy work on Honda's for a living and asking for tip in this site He was be just a lube tech. Not talkin **** - just expressing my thoughts. No real Honda or realy Tech would go in this site and ask how to do i fix my car. But, rather help and give advice instead.

hey guys i work for acura and im a "c" tech working my way up. i install all the accessorys and do light work. and most of the guys that work for honda or acura had to learn how to use the hds system. that thing has alot of stuff and it works on all hondas and all acuras. we also have a tool called the h.i.m (honda interface modulator)it allows u to rewrite the stock ecus on the cars ive used it on the 04 tl. im not sure if it works on the ecus from hondata. then again im not really familar wit the hondata stuff das like a whole new world .but anyways i dont know how that guy got a misfire code from installing a flywheel unless he damaged something while doing the installation .

Like I said I have never encountered this problem but there is a first time for everything. I know the wrx guys have issues with running lihter flywheels. I had checked everything so I figured I would ask some other guys in the tuner industry. All I found out was that the exedy flywheel caused a cel in the 02-04 wrx's.

Hrm. You changed the balance of the reciprocating assembly. You sure it's not he Crank Fluctuation Sensor, and is actually a cylinder misfire??? First thing I would check would be the tranny ground, that's the only thing I can thing of that is in the same "loop" as the spark plugs...

The HDS is something totally different. HIM is the new scan tool and it cost about $8,000 and its a window base software. The HDS is part on ISIS system.

It does not allow you to rewrite the ECU/PCM it just allow you reflush and update PCM.

LOL, I thought you knew your stuff. The Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) is our new tablet pc based scantool. The Honda Interface Module (HIM) is used to reprogram ECUs.

Now we know who the lube tech is!!!

How light of a flywheel did you install? Misfore codes are set because of crankshaft speed fluctuations. I seriously doubt your new flywheel is so light it looses speed between cylinder fires. It may just be a coincidence that you put in a flywheel and now your car has a failing injector or a bad plug wire. If it is actually running rough when cold and then clearing up I would start looking for an actual misfire before blaming the flywheel. My .02
