How to Remove Broken Header Stud Bolt
hopefully i used the right name there - the bolts/studs used to keep the exhaust manifold attached firmly to the block...one of these bolts is snapped off, how should I remove this to replace it....how is it set in there block? am i going to have to drill it out? Any help would be great. Thanks
i had a bold stuck in the head and this is how i got it out...after spending forever tryin to drill it out with a bold extractor we...
grabed the drimel and put a cutting bit in it
cut a slit across the bolt wide enough to fit a flathead screwdriver
used a screwdriver to unscrew the bolt
it unscrewed really easy...like i said i did this to get a screw out of the head so i dont know if you have enough room to do this for the header but its worth a shot

so you're saying the part of the bolt that is recessed into the head has a thread on it? it can be unscrewed?
I left mine in there, no big problemmo
Did you ever get it out? I just pulled the heat shield off of the exhaust manfold on my gsr swap I just got from IAS and noticed two nuts were missing, one bolt was snapped and there is some sort of sealant all over the gasket. I left Larry Jr a message but I doubt he will do anything about it.

always have the car warmed up when doign any kind of exhasut work. espcially on cast iron. loosen them with the car running , and then shut it off and remove them. on removeing it, I usually put in a center punch on the stud. Get is centered perfect. then dril it out to the TAP size of the hole then run a tap in there. It works really well, and is pretty fast. Get a 90Deg attachemnt for your drill for a hole like that.

Omg to funny. Person should realize that the exhaust gasket can be reused. And you never use silicon except on a couple rubber gaskets (valve cover, oil pan, cam seals, ect..).
