Default broken header bolt.

any suggestions of how to extract a broken bolt from the header? the bolt was overtorqued and snapped in half and the other half is stuck inside the head. any suggestions?

no. the bolt does not stick out whatsoever. its pretty deep inside.

my best guess was to use an extractor drill and drill it out, but then again, my only concern is that if i drill it out in a certain angle, i'll mess up the head, which is gonna cost me a lot.

but i'm trying to replace it with a new bolt, which i bought from the acura dealer. i have an exhaust leak.

Drill a VERY small hole centered into the stud. Then get an extractor bit and it should come out with ease and striaght if you did the first part correctly.

I have done this aroun 4 -5 times and by the last time I found that this method was the best. Good luck

do you suggest using a 1/8" drill bit? cuz i bought a 7/64" drill bit to drill the hole

If that doesnt work, drill the entire bolt out with a larger bit and helicoil it. You'll learn to appreciate your torque wrench after this. Have fun.

I agree with adseguy. Drill a hole in the center of the busted stud. BE SURE TO HIT THE CENTER!

Use the extractor and twist that son-of-a-bitch out.


Then buy ARP and don't worry about it again.
