Help with my D16 build ...
I want to try and do piston/rod install WITH the block still in the car. I am still going to take my time, but I didn't want to pull it out. For simplicity sake, let's say my bores are not out-of-round or tapered too much. (I am waiting for my bore gauge from eBay to arrive.) Now I have questions:
- There is still coolant in the block around the sleeves (is that called the water jackets?) Anyways, does that drain if I pull the drain plug on the block?
- There are no visible scratches. I can run my finger inside all the bores and there are no scratched of any kind except for the cross hatch marks; they look very good BTW. Should I re-hone it?
- When I hone it, what am I looking at to cover up? Should I take the crank out? or Can I just place plastic over it? How about around the sleeves?

why do you have a problem with removing the actual engine, it will be 10000x easier to install pistons and rods with the engine out...

no kiddin, my friend and I pulled his D15 out in about 3 hours, and neither of us had done it before. Since you obviously already have the head off, it should be even easier for you.
