Proper way to install block guard?

Default Proper way to install block guard?

I know that the block guard is frowned uppon around here so don't give me the "sleeve it" answer because some of us just don't have the money.

Whats the proper way to install a block guard without causing the sleeves to shift? Ive heard many different answers and I want to get everyon'es input here. If it seems like it is going to be too much trouble to deal with i might just scrap the guard and run without. I plan on running 15 psi on a hondata. Is it safe?

tap it in, then bore/hone.

the machine shop actually welded mine in.

well i guess that answers my question. im keeping the engine in the car while I do this. I'm sticking with standard bore since the original hone marks are on the sleeves. I'll of course re hone.

Machine shop heated my block up and pressed it in. Then bored/honed the cylinders. He said he had to take an extra .004 from where the guard was.

Proper way to install a blockguard:

1. Place the blockguard in your hand
2. Walk to the nearest trash can
3. Open trash can, install blockguard firmly into the rubbage heap
4. Remember to clean your hands, afterall trash is dirty and stinky!

On a serious note blockguards are a waste of money. I have successfully pushed stock blocks to over the 400whp on stock internals without the use of blockguards. You mentioned you have Hondata, that is your anti-sleeve cracking device.

can you further explain step 3. its a little confusing.

If he installed multiple block gaurds on top of each other it be like sleeving. I wonder howcome no one has tried that heh.

not really. sleeves are still stock. there not as strong as aftermarket one.itll just keep the sleeves from rocking.

Hey Jeff, did u make 400whp on stock pistons and rods? amazing what Hondata can do .

I've lived with blockguards in my D16Y8 turbo, and B18C turbo - pushed over 1.7 bar on the D16Y8 a couple times (with my hybrid piston/rod package) and didn't have a problem
