Default GSR crank in LS block?

Do the GSR and LS have the same deck height? Could you put a GSR crank in an LS block, and use GSR rods and pistons and have a GSR minus the oil squirters?
thanks,
Jared

The difference is a little more than the oil squirters. First you have no crank girdle, and second no oil cooler. Also no oil passage for the head(conversion will work though). Also the inside walls in the block are rough on an LS motor, while the GSR is smooth. Casting is much better on a GSR block. Not sure if it will work, due to those factors.

Default I'm not sure why you'd do this...

You're missing out on the slight advantage in stroke the LS motor has.

You're going to have to run an external oil line when switching to the LS block.

You wont have the block girdle or oil squirters.

But in any event... yes the internals will fit. The LS block's deck height is .55mm shorter than the B18C's. Which would yield a smaller deck clearance in the LS block and slightly higher resultant compression ratio.

The loss of clearance might be drastic enough to cause valve contact but of course that would depend what cam and valve trane setup you're running. In that case, you'd be claying out the clearances anyhow right?

You would have a LS-block with shorter stroke GS-R crank, GS-R rods and pistons. However, you'd also need the GS-R's VTEC head to make it a LS/VTEC.

only the 94-95 GSR (and all ITR's) have an oil cooler, so that is isn't as issue. I forgot the details of swaping internals, but I believe that using gsr rods would smack the head at idle (could be wrong, it was a long time ago). either way, just get a GSR motor or do LSVTEC instead of LSrsGSRitrSIRrsxIVTEC $hit. -C
