Ferrea Beehive Valve Springs...NOT HAPPY!!!
Ended up using the springs in my 84x87 gsr with pro2 cams. Did proper Break-in and Ended up breaking the cylinder #2 Intake spring. Valve fell into the cylinder, put a hole in my piston, and crushed the head. Would advise anyone looking into these springs to do research first, wish I went with the dual springs instead to save me this hassle.
P.S. The motor had less than 500 miles and it. broke the day after my tune was done....

My engine builder recommended them. He never had any issues with them, even running tolerances 6 times tighter than mine were set at.

The shop already contacted Ferrea with disappointment.. They will treat him good since he's an authorized dealer, and mainly uses their products. Ferrea said to send the valvetrain back and they will analyze it to find the source of failure. It broke on the coil right under the retainer, a very unusual spot. I'll have pics posted tomorrow.

Wasn't Ferrea's fault...I should have researced before he used them. The beehives Max Recommended Lift is 12.7mm. The Pro2 Intake lift is 12.8mm. No wonder why it failed

that still sucks I hope that the engine builder is going to help you out some since he wanted to recommend them and built the motor when he should have known as well? Hope it works out for you were you aren't just getting screwed though. Good Luck

So did the shop know what lift the cams had ? so your thread title is misleading as IT WAS NOT FERREA's fault maybe now you should correct the title to say YOU AND THE MACHINE SHOP stuffed up.

Well I'm not 100% sure who's fault it is yet. My builder said he clayed the motor, checked every clearance possible and it was all good....he supposedly checked the coil bind to and it was good. We'll find out for sure when we hear back from Ferrea.

well either I hope it turns out for the best for ya, even if it was Ferrea for whatever reason I don't think the original poster is trying to say that all Ferrea parts are bad or anything. Perhaps just a bad set if that's even the case which it may not be.

Re: Ferrea Beehive Valve Springs...NOT HAPPY!!!
Exactly!!! I'm a huge fan of Ferrea, I think they make the best valvetrain components out there. I did talk to the builder again about the cam lobes and the springs. He taugh me some pretty technical stuff about valve springs. He told me the 3 basic steps to the perfect set. Which is the spring pressure, the lift they can handle, and coil binding. He pulled out my build sheet, and we didn't have any issues with any of them. Basically we had .006" room to work with, and that was at 0 lash. So I'm leaning more towards a bad batch. We both feel confident that Ferrea will work with us and send us replacement valves and a new set of springs.

Update!! Got the motor to the shop and taken apart. Needless to say I got lucky! Will have pics posted tomorrow. Hopefully pull the sprigs out and pressure test them next week before we send them off to ferrea.
