Re: Ferrea Beehive Valve Springs...NOT HAPPY!!!
Here's some updated pics. As you can see, this motor had very very few miles on it. I got super lucky the piston didn't break around the skirt and seperate from the rod. I of course need a new head. (if anyone knows of a b16 for sale) There is a slight dip in the Cylinder so I'll need a hone, maybe .5mm or 1mm tops. So i'm looking forward to a 84.5mm or 85mm bore now. I should get more info about the springs next week when my builder does some tests on them.

Yeah all I need is new pistons, and a new head. Should costs me around $800 to get it running again. I'd rather spend that than have to rebuild everything. I'm not getting charged for labor or port work again. I give Jim at Stewart Engines in Indianapolis a lot of respect for helping me out. He's a well respected man around here. Even other big local shops have learned from him, and learned to respect his work. (yes you guys know who you are)

Re: Ferrea Beehive Valve Springs...NOT HAPPY!!!
Just got confirmation from Ferrea that they received my valvetrain. Should hopefully know next week about the tests they do. My bottom end assembly Is good. Rods, crank, bearings are all in phenomenal shape.(replacing bearings to be extra safe)
The cylinder sleeve got inspected and is in perfect shape at 84.5mm. Glad darton sleeves hold up under extreme conditions!! Looks like a quick turnaround in the making!!!

I'm hoping they'll help out. Already made up my mind of running a dual spring next instead of the beehives. I'm pretty confident they'll send replacement parts. Helps that my builder is a reputable guy and a authorized dealer for them.

Wow dude that is terrible. I blame in on your builder for recommending them, knowing you had Pro cams. Since he uses their springs all the time, being an engine builder, he should know the tolerances and known they weren't enough for the S2's.
I really feel bad for you man, that's the worst possible outcome.

Re: Ferrea Beehive Valve Springs...NOT HAPPY!!!
He said all the clearances were good, and I trust him. He did tests before we shipped them back to ferrea, and all the tolerances, seat pressure, coil bind and everything were within spec. I just think it was a bad batch of parts...it happens when you make 20,000+ parts a day. Might seem like a lot, but My work makes the duct work for the 2012 Hondas, and a bad part gets sent out every now and then. I'm Quality Control so I keep track and inspect the parts before a proud owner gets a new car

haha, that is bad. I had a valve break off at the keepers last november and it almost took out my GE sleeve and it busted a hole in the head opening the water jacket where all the coolant fell threw the hole in the piston into my oil pan. talk about carnage.

Whoa! Glad mine wasnt that bad. Fortunately I didn't get any coolant in the oil. I did manage to get e85 in it with my giant holes in the piston, good thing it doesn't combust as easily as gasoline or that could have been major catastrophic failure!

Re: Ferrea Beehive Valve Springs...NOT HAPPY!!!
They said it wasn't there fault the valve spring broke...said something else caused it. Were trying to figure it out. Plus were waiting to get confirmation from them about replacement parts. If they don't want to help I'm buying 4 new valves and possibly considering skunk's pro series valvesprings over ferreas. At least skunk has good customer service giving me a great deal on a replacement camshaft!!

Re: Ferrea Beehive Valve Springs...NOT HAPPY!!!
I don't see how anything else could cause a spring to break either...they didn't bind or anything. My assumption is the springs just couldn't handle the size of the cam.

behive springs have never been good to abuse and high light, wether its a 4 cylinder or 8 cylinder , always stick to dual springs

Re: Ferrea Beehive Valve Springs...NOT HAPPY!!!
We are going with their dual springs this time. I think they said something about it's a road race spring or something ferrea recommends. Not quite sure, just know these new ones shouldn't break, and can take more abuse than a single spring design.
