Default D16Y8 Main Bearings?

People say that the D16Y8 main bearings fail easily, is there any other way to prevent them from failing other than buying better ones?

under what conditions are these people saying they fail easily? Honda bearings are very, very good.

They fail when you run low on oil ..

and when you are running hard when you are a 1 qt low

A few things will make a bearing fail...low oil pressure or too hot of oil...revving a motor beyond what the bottom end is built to (balance, rod bolts, main bearing bolts and the strength of the rods)...and bad clearancing and setup. OEM bearings are the only bearing that I use personally and I know several other Honda engine builders that will not use anything else either.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just asked because i've read a few people saying the Y8 bearings were weaker than the Z6's. See, i read this stuff when i was looking up info on a SOHC Vtec swap into my rex. Anyways, thanks for the feedback guys .

bottom end is ok but change oil often, keep engine temp down, because if you dont
it will kill these bearings, trust me i know smote mine at 100mph in third
quart low 200miles past oil change!!!! and yes with a dx tranny it will do 100
in third it actually happend on a down shift from forth where i was well over 115
damn im still sad but it was fun!!!!
