Default Celica GTS question...HELP

Ok guys before you start bashing at me about celica questions, Ive already posted in a few of those toyota forums and had no luck. So what better then to ask the fellow HT members Plus I didnt know where to post this question, so Ill post it in the tech.......

Make a long story short, my girl has a 00 celica gts and CEL is on. Car stalls/chokes like crazy until its at normal temperature but even still, stalls at high rpm because its running lean? Took it to autozone to check it and says bank1 sensor 1 running lean. So I buy a primary sensor and secondary sensor. Still not good....same symptoms. I took her car to Toyota for a diagnostic test, Toyota says the same thing but were gonna charge me $400+ for installing the primary sensor only. I told them that I just install a new one but they say thats where they should start since the computer is telling them that.

I dont know what else do to because her car is not passing the inspection. I just want some feedbacks on what to do....Even still its not a honda, a every Car operates somewhat similiar......any legitimate feedback is great.

Have you checked the injectors?

what do I have to do to make sure the injectors are shooting gas consistantly? Anyway of telling its bad? I thought about it but it idles good though.....

what Ive done so far:

change o2 sensors, air filter, pour injector cleaners, clean MAF sensor, new spark plugs........

This is how the car operates at cold start. It idles at 1700 rpm cold and once you punch the gas pedal, it boggles down to 2-300 rpm and once you let go of the gas pedal the car jump up to 2500 rpm......you cant even drive it cold or the car will stall/boggle like crazy. Every morning I have to warm up the car til its at normal temperature and then drive it. Getting annoyed.

Ive driven the car up to 6500-7000 rpm and the car just struggles climbing up and its just bringing stress to the motor....I guess its the cause of running lean.....not enough fuel I suppose....

Anymore advise would be helpful......

clean or replace the mass air flow sensor...I would try cleaning it first...I've seen so many problems with those cars come back to the MAF

also, my memory on a GTS is a little fuzzy right now, but don't those cars run a factory wide band primary O2? like the k series cars?

double check which sensor for the primary O2 and make sure you installed the correct one, because if you are getting a cel for something is still wrong in that circuit

...oh btw, why not just burn the fu*ker to the ground and buy a honda...lol j/k

what is the cel for?

that o2 diffuser only works if your running a test pipe (no cat) and want to keep the cel off for the lack of cat

find out the code, and I can get you the troubleshooting diagram for the code, that may help

This is the situation, engine see lean mixture and tries to add fuel via fuel trim. Keeps adding fuel to try to get the sensor to read rich and when it reaches ~30% more fuel it sets the CEL.

What casues lean mixture at the sensor:
1) Exhaust leak (feel around, listen)
2) MAF sensor (clean with brake cleaner)
3) Fuel pressure low (need a pressure gauge)
4) Vacuum leak after MAF (feel around, listen)
5) Primary O2 sensor defective.

You should be able to check for the easy items.

You need the primary O2 sensor, you car will run like crap without it. Secondary sensor is used to check the cat, so it's just an emission check.

what is the code number for the cel? should be pxxx
you can try to determine the if the injectors are firing two ways...take a long thin blade screwdriver and place it on the base of the injector and put your ear up to the handle of the screwdriver and you'll hear the injector "clicking"

or you can unplug them one by one with the engine running and listen for a drop in engine rpm

check this and fuel pressure and I would also recommend doing a compression check...could be a bent valve
