Balancing that important?
How important is it to balance a bottom end? Is it really that crucial? Does it really make that big of a difference? I'm thinking of stripping my H22 motor apart and doing a complete balance of the whole rotating assembly. What else should I do while I'm at it? Don't think I'll be replacing any of the pistons with forged ones, etc.. or anything like that.. Probably just stock components. Any ideas?

like any upgrades on an engine, balancing is good in many aspects. it keeps the rotational assembly from spinning itself apart (well better than the nonbalanced one). it will allow the engine to rev higher (but not too high, without upgrading the valvetrain). it will make for a smoother, quieter running engine. if you can afford it (and it should not be too expencive), do it.
make sure they balance the clutch as well.

Have the crank, crank pulley, flywheel, and pressure plate all balanced. Any good shop will balance them independant of one another.
You will need to have the crank micropolished after the balancing.
Most of the aftermarket pistons and rods out there will be balanced pretty well, but it won't hurt to have them checked.

Just wondering if there would be any noticeable gains from this? I'm assuming longevity, but what about power wise? I assume the motor will run more smoothly and quietly.
