bad compresion, burning oil?
sup,
ive recently purchased a 2000 si em-1, suspension/brakes/ intake header exhaust and cam gears. it is not making nearly as much power as it should! so i did a compression test, 3 cylinders are making 150-160 while the other cylinder is making 120-125....these results are all after 3 ignition clicks. so i investigate and find out the car USED to be running a Type R head, obviously the previous owner wouldn't tell me this. im thinking it might be a piston ring, head gasket or maybe valve re adjustment. the car does burn oil. its a b16a2 if it matters. am i better off just rebuilding it or buying a new motor? What are some techniques to find the problem? thanks

had the same prob with my Si after i bought it found out it had been boosted on at 15psi for like 35k. what is your buget. you can pick up a newer DOHC for like 1200 to 1500 or less buildin would be more in depth but you know what you have depends on what you have time for
Replace the rings, seems to be a problem with alot of used si's, do to the previous owner beating the **** out of them, and the lack of a factory oil cooler. I will be re ringing a friends si in another month, burns oil like crazy.

would valve seals or headgasket be a possibility also? thanks
If i do not have the funds to change the rings right now,and i just keep refilling the oil and take it easy on the engine, is this safe?

Could very well be a valve seal... If I were you i'd run a thicker weight oil. Run a thick 30 weight like German Castrol 0w-30, or a Mobil 1 0w-40... It won't burn as much.
Check your PCV valve too...
Is that plug electrode glossy black?
