Default B20 resleeved w/out problems

Ok, everyone says that the b20 sleeves are weak due to their different design and would recomend getting the ls motor instead. I was wondering if you just get the b20 sleeved, wouldnt all your problems go away for boost applications and b20/vtec. i like this motor because of the better torque. thanks. btw the rods and pistons will also be changed.

Yes, getting the B20 sleeved will solve the problem of it having weak stock sleeves.

dude the b20 has 6 more lbs of torque then then the b18b and less HP , plus u want to spend money on getting it re-sleeved, screw that, get the ls.

If you want to resleve anyway, just start with the B18a/b block. Its a helluva lot cheaper and easier to find.

you are right! the same motor with .2l more makes less power. given equal chances(same IM,EM,etc.) the b20 is quite a bit more powerful. i wish i had 2 liters instead of my measly 1.8....

he is right on one point though...if you are just going to resleeve, pick up a b18b instead.

We B20 folks have been getting pounded over the head by this from the LS folks for quite some time. But it is really only true if you are comparing a stock B20B in a 1997-1998 CR-V to a stock B18B in a 1994-1995 Integra LS/RS. And this is just not a good way to compare the motors. Neither the B20 intake manifold nor the B20 exhaust manifold can be used in Civic swaps. And the B20 ECU is not used for pre-1996 Civic swaps. LS parts are more typically used. A more fair comparison would be a B18B with i/h/e vs a B20 using a stock LS intake manifold and ECU with i/h/e. And in this situation, the B20 produces about 10 more HP and ft-lb torque TO THE WHEELS. Furthermore, the torque curve is flatter than that of the B18B (torque is closer to the peak value at RPMs other than that of peak torque). And the B20 reponds better to other mods (Skunk2 intake manifold, bigger throttle body, cams, etc.) than the B18B.

As for sleeving a B18B vs a B20, either will get you the same setup. But the B18B block is cheaper and easier to find. So if you want to sleeve a block, go B18B. But if you want to run a basic, 2.0 liter motor and not do anything internal, go B20. And yes, the B20 is definitely worlds better than a straight up, 81mm, 1.8 liter B18B!
