Default Autometer water temp guage install

I am planning on installing an electric autometer water temp guage, and I had a couple of questions. The question is where is the stock sending unit and is all that I have to do is take out the stock one adn replace it with the autometer one? I heard from someone that there is 2 sending units one for your guage and one for your computer and you are just supposed to replace the one for your guage with the autometer one. and yes I already did a search.

thanks in advance
matt

I wouldn't take out the stock guage. I installed mine by making an adapter that went in the upper coolant line on the radiator. I got a pipe from home depot and drilled and tapped it, then threaded the sender in. I then cut the hose and installed the unit in between. It works like a charm and my factory guage is still working. AC Autotechnic now sells units you can buy that will work real nice. Some companies like Samco and Spoon Sports also sell hose kits with adapters already in the hoses.

the stock sender and any after market one have different threads so you can't replace the factory one.

I have the AC Autotechnic and I think greedy makes one to.

We use the hole for the ECT gauge sending unit. You can either just leave out the ECT gauge sending unit and thread the temperature probe into the head, or you can tee it off and run both probes.
